Default .223 & 7.69 ammo are available at normal prices if you are willing to be patient

Yes it is steel cased TulAmmo but it was 5.27 for .223 and $5.17 for 7.62x39.
I go to walmart 2 times a week the days their truck comes in. I also found Federal .22lr for $22 for 550 rds two weeks ago

You have to be patient and persistent and you can still find ammo at good prices!

That looks like a Walmart receipt. I hope they aren't really getting out of the ammo business.

For the AK Tula, the bullet has a bimetal jacket so it is magnetic.

My local Wally Word gets their trucks on Tues and Sat. My local Big 5 get theirs on Wednesday. Every store is different. Find the salesman who normally works in the sporting goods dept and become acquaintances with them so they take care of you. Sometimes he will even text me when the ammo I am looking for is in stock and in return I write the store manager or verbally tell them how good of an employee he is! Everyone benefits!

Good luck all and be patient and persistent is the key

After the 2008 election results came in and the shelves went bare, it felt like a year before inventory and prices returned to normal.

So maybe jan - feb of 2014 we should be back to normal ammo levels

Some ARs have no problem with steel cased ammo. Some do. It all depends on what you have.

Yeah, after that around 2009 and 2010 there was the state's proposed ammo ban. So just when the stock comes back there will be yet another hurdle to deal with.

Products vary from store to store. Keep in mind not all Walmarts carry ammo. I've found some have more pistol ammo than others and some vice versa. Its like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates. "You never know what you gonna get."

SHTF or God forbid our Bozo leaders tie our hands with fake 2A violations we will be screwed. I think of my ammo supply like fuel in my truck going across the desert. I always keep my tank full with a separate reserve tank. That's just me. Hoarder ?

I have a POF AR which was designed to run cheap steel ammo..but after 1000 rounds the problems started..so from now on only quality ammo

What constitutes hoarding? For one person having 200 rounds is plenty, yet that is close to what I would shoot on a range trip. Is 1000 rounds hoarding? Maybe 10,000 rounds?

I try to have a supply of practice ammo that is equal to three "range days" for each gun. Is that hoarding?

I used to think it was weird to own 50k or 100k rounds of ammo, now I think it is smart.

At the very least, ammo prices are never going down and will just keep increasing. At the extreme end, ammo is becoming the third precious metal after Gold and Silver and is worth almost as much when things go bad.

I wish things were back to normal so we could just have 1k for each gun and pick up some ammo when we go shooting but in this state, we may never see that again, hoarding may be the new way of life for gun enthusiasts.

Buy bulk when it's cheap is the way to go. I spend about $600 more or less around Black Friday buying 22LR, 9mm and 45. Yes, I got yelled at by my wife big time and almost triggered an audit on my credit card bill lol. At the end it's worth it. Combined with the ammo that I had, now I can comfortably say that my stockpile can last me a year or more.

Last time in 2008, the price didn't drop back down to where I am comfortable to buy in bulk until the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011. Hopefully the stock will come back in a year or so.

I completely disagree with this. This is .223/5.56 we're talking about, not 10mm ammo. The market will correct itself after the panic has subsided, it may take quite a number of months for that to happen however.

Agreed. it all depends on mfger's. How much are they willing to ramp up? it could be up to years, but prolly months. One of the issues is, that with so many 'new' gun owners, no one expected such a run on guns and ammo. Until all who own guns have plenty of ammo to shoot and hoard, this will continue.

Here in the Sacramento its tough getting 223/556. I go by Sportsmans wharehouse once a week and can normally get 3 boxes drop them in my car and double back to do it again. At 8.99 a box its not great but sub .50 a round is feeling like it might be the new norm. I just keep plugging away and increasing my store with hopes of better times but anticipating the worst.

Agreed. People are in pure panic mode. It will level them drop. You can see that before, couple weeks, some people were getting .65 cents AE .223. Now some are not even getting .60 cents.
