Cool Model 700 magpul - factory gun

I know the stocks by themselves have been discussed at length but this seems like a newer addition(certainly new to my thought process):

https://www.americanrifleman.org/art...-magpul-rifle/

5r rifled 22" barrel
Magpul stock
Tactical Bolt handle
Setup for drop-free mags
Black ceracoate
X-mark pro adjustable trigger

Handled one at Turners, seemed like a fair price at +\-$1000 considering:

5r rifle - $900-1000
Stock - $220
Tactical bolt knob- $100 installed
Bottom mag adapter - $50
Ceracoate job - $100

Also, as a lefty, this style stock makes running the bolt a dream, compared to other stocks as my left hand can stay where it is while my right runs the bolt.

Looking at it purely for desert long range shooting for fun and the occasional hunt..

Also, just for full disclosure, i'm a total magpul fanboy, so this rifle definitely has the "feels" compared to all the other rifles i handled at the LGS.

Still curious why doesn't Remington offer the 700 chambered in 6.5 creedmoor.

Default Looks like my Savage

When you the read it's description it reminds me very much like the Savage model 10 with heavy barrel I bought except for the Magpul stock.

With that nice stock that's for sure a 1K rifle for sure.

I'm sure if Remington offered a 6.5 700, it would sell like hot cakes. Have it with 5R rifling and a HS Precision or Magpul stock, would be a good buy IMO.

Good question. I have always adapted to the right-handed world, so i think i just naturally gravitated towards the righty-gun that felt the best.

Tikka's are nice, tho. I might consider one if it had the same features for the same or less $$$

You can buy a 700 SPS and drop it into that same stock (which can be found on sale) and it'd be cheaper.

Hey, I posted about this rifle a couple months ago and got a
"Meh".
Here's a .260 version for $848.31 shipped...
http://grabagun.com/remington-84291-model-700-bolt.html

22" 5R threaded barrel.
Nice looking bolt knob stock.
Seems like an awesome deal out of the box!

You could, but some folks would prefer a stainless barrel & action over the carbon steel of the sps (just preferences). Also anybody shooting/loading heavier bullets might prefer the 1-11.25 twist of the 5R over the 1-12 twist of the sps.

A 5R with a few extras for $1k or less sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Yeah, this rifle ticks off all the boxes as to what shooters are looking for in a precision rifle, except for the caliber offerings.

Drop the 260 Remington and add 6.5mm Creedmoor 1-8" twist, 6mm Creedmoor 1-7.5" twist, and 223 Wylde 1-7" twist.

But at least they got the 308 offering right, 1-10" twist. Not to say that 1-12" is useless, but 1-10" is what everyone seems to want for 308, even though most will just be shooting only 168s and 175s which the 1-12" can handle.

P.S. Remington is essentially selling the end-result 700 that most people who are customizing on a budget end up doing to their factory 700. So while they are at it, they should save everyone some trouble, add $80-100 to the price tag, and include a Timney 510 trigger from the factory. I have a drawer full of take-off X-Mark Pro triggers.

Thumbs up SHTF ?????

All my precision rifles are in normal easy to get calibers. Just in case. I have ordered a Lothar Walther barrel in 6.5 X 55 for a new build. This will be my only departure from normal calibers. I also shoot my rifles with a bi-pod, as I would use them in the field, not a sled. If I was in the market for a .308 I would definitely look at the rifles above.

You see, that was what interested me. I also saw that a previous poster stated that one could just drop in an R700 SPS, but was thinking you would have to add the 5R barrel, bottom metal, etc, etc..

You can get a Howa 1500 barreled action for about $450 in 6.5CM. Drop that into a MDT chassis for about $600. Your far ahead for $1000. If you want to be a little cheaper, B&C makes an adjustable stock for the 1500 for $400.

I think Remington took a step in the right direction with this rifle, its just a little over priced.

Id seriously consider the Bergara HMR if you want a R700 footprint action with upgraded extractor, DBM, adjustable mini chassis stock, threaded barrel and 6.5CM from the factory.

If you dont like the stock/trigger it will use all same aftermarket parts as the R700 as well as remage style barrels

The HMR does not use 700 barrels.
The HMR has a coned breech.

Perhaps you could put a 700 BOLT into it and then use 700 barrels though.
I don't know if it's compatible with 700 bolts or not though.

Thanks for the correction, I wonder if they will offer their own remage style replacements then since the BMP already comes with a barrel nut.

That's a nice one. If your used to ARs the chassis will make you feel right at home. Plus all the options you get with a fully adjustable stock.

I was under the impression that this is not the same one sold directly from Remington, correct? This one says it is sold as a kit, it is a 700P, 5R 23.4" barreled action, 1:11.25 twist. The one on Remington's site lists it as a 700, 22" barrel, 1:10 twist.
Thanks.

Those 23.5 pitch threads are excellent.
SO many typos.
Hard to say what you are really getting...

They list 86496 as the part number, which is the 24" 5r barreled action so it seems like they are just selling piece parts as a package.

Great, thanks. That is what I was hoping. When I entered that part number on Remington's site, I didn't get a hit. Sure it was operator error, or I was on the wrong site for parts.
Going to start DROS this morning.

Typo in my post the part is 86498. Eurooptic is one of the few places I've seen sell it however.

FYI, that is how it arrived at my FFL, as a kit, which is what I was expecting. A 24" 5R barreled action & bolt from Remington. And a Magpul stock and a DPM/mag, with Brownell's hardware.
Ah, the 10 day wait.........
