It would be fun and introduce a lot of calgunners to the competition side of shooting...

I would be wiling to get the targets/stands/timer and run the briefings and events. I would only need a couple of other safety officers and i can probably get them too.

I need the head honchos to give me the ok and I will head out to the site and scout/photograph the area for a final presentation/approval to management.

Ive never participated in any type of competition because one I'm too much of a crappy shot and two I'm kind of intimidated...

Went to sszs 5.5 and It would be a nice spot to get introduced to this side of the shooting world because of the relaxed atmos....looking forward Ronin

There are Appleseeds the weekends of March 14-15, April 11, April 18 in the So Cal area, and a WOT on March 21. April 4 full moon weekend sounds great but there are holidays, plus April is always a busy month in general. March 7 full moon weekend gets my vote.

Ronin,

MLW and I almost attempted to do this @ 5.5, but there was too much going on.

Theres a few nice canyons around that could work, however we keep coming back to the types of targets used. Im all for shooting steel, I find it more fun and interactive, especially as a pistol shooter, but the safety aspect is the main issue.

Id be happy to be a part of the conversation/planning/set-up/execution as we move forward, just let me know

I'd like to keep it a little early like last year. It was nice to not be baking under 103 degree heat.

Little steps first... I thinks simple, safe IDPA /action type course that can be adapted to carbine as well might be the ticket just to introduce a lot of new shooters to the concept and familiarize them with safety protocols and commands.

Kinda "set the hook" for coming out to compete at regular matches.

I will be an advocate of the KISS principle out the gate. This is NOT going to be very fun or challenging for regular IDPA/USPSA/3 gun competitors. That's not my idea anyway. Its to introduce new inexperienced shooters to competition. As for scoring there would be maybe just two classes... those who have competed in maybe 3 or more matches and those who have never competed at all.

Needless to say, I'm just thinking out out here and its all subject to management approval and the combined opinion of those who volunteer to put it on....

We could ask local matches to donate targets / materials and provide flyers to their events and maybe a "match" table near the food on the main shooting line to pass out flyers / information on the shooting sports. (More thinking out loud ....lol)

Cross Roads Guns Shows:

Feb 28-March 1 in Ontario
March 7-8 NO LOCAL SHOWS / AND GOOD MOON LIGHT FORECAST / Appleseed in Corona
March 14-15 Del Mar / Appleseeds in four locations
March 21-22 Sacramento BAD MOON LIGHT FORECAST / no Appleseeds
March 28-29 Orange County / no Appleseeds
April 4-5 NO LOCAL SHOWS / AND GOOD MOON LIGHT FORECAST EASTER - NEVERMIND
April 11-13 Cow Palace

IIRC, last year we had it in early March, and the weather was great, so any other events anywhere else going on the weekend of March 7-8 ??
Doesn't give you a lot of time between now and then, but does it work better than April 4-5?? (ETA: April 5 is Easter)
Moons: http://www.moonconnection.com/moon_p...calendar.phtml
.
My first vote is for March 7-8, second choice 14-15.

What was the verdict last year on wind differences between March and April?
I remember somebody local posting something about that.

I'm itching to go out to the secret spot and shoot / clean up a little.

I vote early March as well, same time last year.

If we do it Mar 14-15 I may be able to come to this one. Might even get my wife to come with me this time. I'm sure my 2 buddies that came with me to #4 will be willing to be there.

“we’ve” been looking into it - the hardest part is finding an appropriate place. Not too many deserts in NorCal that I know of...

Deal.

IIRC, myself and ferrum were able to roust up some steel. I’m sure it wouldn’t be too difficult to do again.

I can get access to enough IPSC targets' stands and tape. We can set the same course of fire for both pistol and carbine. We would have to just move steel out farther for carbines. Run pistol and carbine in separate groups. Use IDPA or USPSA ROE and scoring (Yet to be determined).

We will have to restrict those shooting milsurp ammo (steel jacket/core) to shooting paper targets only. Anyone who shoots a steel target with milsurp buys the target they just ruined.

Will can make it a nice long combat course of fire and call it the "running dead combat course"

Last years wind in March was pretty mild. No real issues. The year before in April was horrible. Pretty much ruined the trip. I don't know if that's typical or if it was just a freak thing to have that much wind.

We will have to restrict those shooting milsurp ammo (steel jacket/core) to shooting paper targets only. Anyone who shoots a steel target with milsurp buys the target they just ruined.

Will can make it a nice long combat course of fire and call it the "running dead combat course"
Nice...

^^^^ I'm listening and taking all your feedback into consideration.

This event takes more than 4 months in planning; I was at 5.5 with more than 10K rounds in my truck and an undisclosed amount of items at hand;unable to discharge a single round due to my obligations and at the same time already networking and planing 6.0.

Be no mistaken, some of us will never sleep and respectfully take all your input and feedback very seriously.

My buddy and his family went out to the SSZS location (1-17-15) and I asked for a quick report - Sat 1-17-15

Road - "Good condition"

Trash - "Not bad. People have left a lot of wood targets behind but we brought more home than we came with...."

Ok guys this is it.

I need your final vote, per your feedback and tons of great info.

March 7-8

March 14-15

I will be leaving for SHOT tomorrow morning, that will keep me somehow limited to post the entire week, I will try my best to keep track of this thread and stay on top of the game.

At the same time we have a board of directors meeting sched. for next week as well, I need a date so we can discuss and I hope implement some important actions that I'm recommended for our community event based on our previous experiences and inherent needs.

Please Vote.

Respectfully.
