3x vs 1-4x Optics

I'm not looking for a definitive answer; I'd just like to hear people's opinions. I trying to decide between the two, and will be mounting it on my AR15. I originally bought a 1x + 3x magnifier, but wasn't thrilled with it; so now I'm looking at the above options. I don't plan on shooting out past 200yds, but still would like to have the capabilities of going out past that. With that said, I'd still like it to be versatile in regards to CQC. As of right now, it is only being used at the range, but in case those zombies come, I'd like to be prepared for all situations.

Since I am going the budget route (Primary Arms), I will prob just end up buying both setups over time. I'll prob start with the Primary Arms 1-4x, then save a little more and get the Primary Arms 3x. I was told by Primary Arms customer service that there are rumors of a possible 5x, similar to the Burris AR-536...I'm down for one of those.

Also, would it be over kill to mount the Primary Arms Reflex on top of the 1-4x? Seeing as it's adjustable, is a reflex necessary for CQ?

I'd still like to hear more opinions if they are out there.

I'm a stickler for optical quality and ruggedness and the least expensive I'd consider is a Weaver V3 1-3x20. It's not illuminated but it uses good quality fully multi-coated Japanese glass yet you can get them for around $170. You could also look at a Nikon M-223 1-4x20 for around $300. I'm saving up for a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 illuminated tactical scope but those run $500 when you can find one. All of the above offer true 1x magnification at the low end for both eyes open CQB.

M-223 for 5.56? Not sure if you know the m-223 is based on a .223 ballistic tip 55 gr out .223 chamber. The BC will be off with M193 and M855

Nikons spot on calculator on their website has listing for almost every single load available, you pop it in, then zero your scope for what ever range you like, and it tells you where its going to hit out to every yardage you want.

My experience with it is things were only off 1-2 inches at most out to 500 yards. basically tells you 200 yards, top of second ring, 400 yards, bottom of 400 yard ring and so on. Its pretty spot on

Actually no the 55gr BC is .243 its doing about 3000 FPS out of a 5.56 chamber

55 gr Vmax is .255 but in most 5.56 chambers you will loose almost 200 fps
due to longer throat.

At 600 your off almost 20"

I've been very happy with my Mueller SpeedShot.

Combines the best of both worlds, the speed of a red dot at 1x and the luxury to push it out to 4x when I want those longer shots.

The dot is super bright meaning it's truly daylight visible.
