What sort of wrist watch do you guys wear?
I am curious to know what sort of wrist watch do most of you guys wear on deployment? Is it the G-Shock or do you prefer a different type?
Thanks, BP

We certainly can't get enough watch talk here. I guess deployment would narrow down intended use anyway. Let's see 'em.

I used to wear Seiko all titanium case and band watches, very very light on the wrist. Just done wear them much anymore, gone over to the dark side and use my phone. The watched still get used but more for dress up occasions.

Haven't taken it on a deployment (probably would though): https://shop.hamiltonwatch.com/top-s...h69419933.html
I love that watch. Been wearing it daily for six months on an OD NATO. Legit movement and crystal from a legit, American watchmaker, keeps good time, has proven itself to be sufficiently tough, love the small diameter AND height... It can be had for maybe $300 or something too. More power to those who favor the G-Shocks and what not but I love this thing. |

I wore diving watches with screw down crowns and casebacks to keep sand out, and a synthetic sapphire or mineral glass crystal to reduce scratches. Rubber wrist bands are preferable to metal if you are going to be outside in extreme temperatures. You don’t have to spend Rolex money for one either; Maratac, Vostok and other utilitarian brands are in the 100 to 400 range.

I do not like wearing a watch at all. I have a cheap one I use for work now only because I have to keep an accurate log book.

I wore a plain old wal mart Timex. It fell apart by the end of the deployment, but that was what made it kind of cool. A $22 watch made it the whole way. Other guys liked it too, I had several guys tell me I had a nice watch while I was peeing.

For daily wear, I wear my Tag or my Rolex.
When deployed, I wear a cheap Timex MK1 with the fabric strap. I'm a medic, so I like having a second hand instead of digital. I also never know what is going to happen to my watch...so I want one that is cheap and easy to replace... I have two of these that are still ticking away after 4 deployments... https://www.timex.com/mk1-36mm-fabri...yABEgKQzPD_BwE |

It is pretty well documented that an oversized G-Shock watch, matched to a shaved forearm with a light coat of glistening cocoa butter oil, will make the wearer look buffer.
This effect is increased dramatically if the wearer flexes his arm whenever looking at the watch. |

The best Panarai or Rolex still has a +/- of up to 5 seconds a day. A middle of the road quartz is +/- 10 seconds a month, sometimes a year on good ones. Also less prone to magnetic fields, shock, and just fewer parts to break. A decent quartz will also have a low battery indicator giving about a month of warning before going dead. |

I wanted to buy a high end watch at the BX, but when they looked at my E-3 rank, they redirected me toward the spinning Timex display wheel. I was able to get kitted up with a sweet velcro Iron Man. I still had cash left over to hit Robin Hood's on the way out for a torpedo samich with all the trimmings. Hooah

Bought a $100 something Gshock. Broke after a month in Iraq. I had my parents send me a cheap timex from walmart. Lasted me the rest of my enlistment and I still have it in a box somewhere.
It was greenish and had a tan leather strap. Told time like it was supposed to and never failed me.

I was a ripcuel watch guy most of my life then my watch band broke. I loved not having anything on my wrist. With cell phones I never need to look at the time anymore. I miss having a watch for dress up events though. I've been eyeing the Nixon watch with the Ruby in it.

Marathon GSAR or Casio GW-S5600-1JF.
I still have my 13 year old Casio G Shock G2300, but it's retired and rides on my Harley now.
