Pistol for folks with limited hand strength. Nice to see that market addressed.

That's actually pretty cool. There's one without the thumb safety:

Agreed. M&Ps are known for their nice profile and this ruins it. Oh well, as long as it shoots and serves the owner well.

Weird. An odd concept, too. I thought my full size M&P 40 was very easy to rack. Maybe the Shield is different?? Of course this is larger than the current Shield.

It looks more like the size of the compact 2.0 than the Shield we all know and love. I will try to find one to see if it is easy enough for Grandma to rack. It looks like there are ears milled into the back of the side for easier racking and tabs on the magazine to help loading too...

I agree it is nice to see a niche market being addressed. I understand if it is not tactical enough for Calguns...

Here is another article.
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2.../06/shield-ez/

Edit to add. Just measured the 6.7 inch overall length compared to some other M&Ps I have around. It is just a little bigger than the Shield and just a little smaller the and 2.0 Compact.

Edit 2, looks like it is the same overall length as the Springfield XDe low effort slide design, but theirs is in 9mm, not .380. The XDe magazines are not low effort for sure...

True.

They wanted it to have a 1911 feature, so they added a thumb safety to make it a Manly gun.

Reminds me of the XD's grip safety. I'm not a fan of them.

I’d buy it if it be on the “roster,” (as with other ugly pistols). Who cares how it looks...we just need the roster overturned! Stay focused aside from aesthetics all! We’ve been placed into a corner and all we can comment on is how things look because we can only look and not touch. How can you judge it by its look alone. The true issue is that we can’t even get it here unless you’re “special”. No roster the you can get anything you want. If it ugly to you then don’t get it.

I’ll crawl into my corner and go back to sleep. I was sleep talking btw.

The bigger question is, would it be on roster? I'd think so because it is similar to Springfield's, but who knows....

This is no subcompact but I applaud innovation, even though it isn't for me. Not that it will be for any Californian.

This supports the argument against the Roster. Here a major firearms maker comes out with a new model that addresses woman, the aged, partially disabled (I have arthritic hands) and you can't get it in California.

Yes, it's ugly, but I would buy one or 2 in a New York minute if I could. My wife has a very hard time racking the slide of every semi I own or could borrow. The only one that works for her is the Beretta with a pop up barrel. I know some will say racking a slide is just a question of technique and training. Tell that to my wife. So it's a revolver for her. A mid-size semi in a low recoiling round does seem to deal with many of her issues.
But, not here in Kali.....

Actually this is impressive.
My wife likes her Shield, but she cannot rack the slide, load the magazines and is surprised by the recoil and has difficulty with the safety nub - clearly this product is not aimed at those of us who are regular shooters.

Exactly right. Great point.

The roster is all about systematically subtracting the number of handguns available to responsible, law-abiding citizens. It doesn't have much to do with safety, caliber, or anything else.

Bet every last dollar. Because no new semi auto handguns can be approved for the roster without micro stamping, a technology that does not exist except on paper. The semi auto handguns on the roster now were grandfathered on before that law.

I like a few concepts with the design. I'm not in the target market but its a good start for the people its intended to target.

I wonder if a lawsuit can be filed against the safe handgun roster as it prevents the disabled from owning a useable firearm?

Naw that would be a leftist tactic, never mind!

I had a chance to put a magazine through one over Easter break. It felt more in line with the G19/2.0 Compact in size than Shield single stack in size (which made it very easy to grip). It was easier to rack the slide than most pistols I have used (about equal to my Walther P22 with the hammer down). The magazines were easy to load due to the side tabs. I did not notice the "wings" at the back of the slide. The trigger was nice, no complaints. Recoil and muzzle flip minimal and easy to control. I did notice the cases just burped out, falling just to the side, but that could have been the range rental rounds I had to use.
For $330 plus fees (what the shop had it for sale for) and the intended client base, I think it was a nice, niche client base pistol. I think the Shield EZ would be a good training/first pistol for the older/weaker person for basic home defense.
With that said, with minimal practice/training, I think the XDe is a better carry pistol for its size and caliber.

I was excited to find one to ck it out.. When I did I was surprised to see it was as large or larger than a 9mm shield !!... I was expecting it to be Diamondback size ,,, or at least 1/3 smaller than the shield... As big as it is,,, it is definitely not a pocket gun... Maybe a good house gun for Grandmom.... I will pass.... Good idea but not for me ...
Cheers...

I noticed this thread yesterday and the link below today.

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...umer-advisory/

Quote:
CONSUMER ADVISORY

To: M&P® 380 SHIELD™ EZ™ Manual Thumb Safety Owners

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., (April 6, 2018) – Like any firearm, the function of the M&P 380 Shield EZ Manual Thumb Safety pistol can be influenced by the type and quality of ammunition used with the pistol. In the case of the M&P 380 Shield EZ Manual Thumb Safety, we have found that in very rare circumstances, ammunition that produces a high level of felt recoil can cause the manual safety to move from the fire to the “safety on” position during firing. Should this occur, you will not be able to fire the next round unless and until the manual safety is reset to the fire position.

At Smith & Wesson, we are committed to designing and producing firearms that meet the highest quality and performance standards. To ensure that every Smith & Wesson handgun meets our standards for reliability and performance, as of April 4, 2018, we have engineered the manual safety so that it will be less susceptible to the influence of ammunition weight, velocity and loads. Any M&P 380 Shield EZ Manual Thumb Safety pistol produced before April 4, is eligible for a no-cost upgrade.

When they show up in the marketplace I’ll buy one. There are a few people I know that can use/need it.
