Default Sarco 1911 80% experience/info?

Anyone have experience/info with Sarco 80% 1911? Do you know any shops I can go to to mill it? Will I have to buy a jig?

Plenty I need to know as this will be my first pistol build (am on list for AR-10 too )

Will they even sell them to you? That company is not "California Friendly". They won't ship to 03 FFLs in this state, so I would make sure you can even order from them at all...

I refuse to do business with them anymore...

I emailed Sarco and was told they have 80%'s and will ship to CA

I cannot locate anyone that sells 80% 1911s. Ares looks nice but out of stock, bit more than Id like to pay not to mention lower half is polymer

I called Sarco this morning about those 1911 wide body cast frames. They told me that yes they are legal to ship to all 50 states as it is not a complete firearm. The person I spoke with even double checked with another operator and came up with the same answer. I'm interested in picking one of those up but a little unsure about the whole thing.

Never saw those before. I'm gonna check on weaponsguild, but I think ordering a few to try out wouldn't be bad.

I'm not sure if those are the same frames as they had a few years ago. If they are, than they are 0% stainless castings. Almost all the surfaces need to be re dimensioned including magwells and trigger groove. If you do not have much tooling than it is probably not worth it unless you are willing to buy many bits.

Sarco 80% ? link?

i used to have one of there old "decorator" frames that i donated to a fellow cali builder over @ weaponsguild and there was not much left on those that needed to be done , if memory serves me correctly they needed the barrel seat milled , ejector drilled and rails

Double action triggers. Only one wide body seems to have the traditional 1911 trigger. Not sure what to think of them just yet although the price seems to be good.

I can't find much on sarco's website about this. I found they had a decorator frame listed but it says refer to shotgun news for more information:
http://www.sarcoinc.com/cgm.html
1911 .45, Frame, Decorator - See Current Shotgun News Ad For Details NO FFL required

Here is an form post showing them from 2007:
http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=182324

They looks like they have potential from that, but may be frame blems?

If anyone has any more information please publish it. I would be interested as well.

Most are double actions, they only have one frame (the p14) that is single action. For the price, I got a few to play around with.

So what would be the difference on the casting for double vs single? If it's a double action 1911 is it double only or once fired or cocked it acts as single? Was looking at those and curious.

Also if double action can it still be carried cocked and safety on?

Casting isn't as strong as a milled receiver, but it is much cheaper to make and it uses less materials. It could be argued that it makes a difference in the life of the firearm. This being said I still ordered some.

I was actually just looking at those this afternoon. Got the Sarco email ad, and was intrigued.

I actually had two in the cart, but after some searching about on the interwebs I decided against it. These are, based on the pictures, NOT 80% frames. More like 60% if even that.

There was a website where a guy shows a complete build up of one. It is much more involved that an 80% build. Unless you have a milling machine and lots of experience, I'd stay away. Basically, the sides have to be milled flat, the rails need to be cut, the mag well has to be machined out, most of the holes are not drilled, the hammer and grip safety cuts need to be milled out, the magazine catch slot has to be milled out and machined, as does the safety slot. Its a lot of work, compared to the 80% build that just needs to have the rails cut, barrel link milled out, and a couple holes drilled.

There's a reason they are $29, and its not cus they're cast. If you have the tooling and experience, more power to ya. Post a build here!

These are not the same as the old 1911s they had, as far as I can tell nobody has a build article with them yet. They are dirt cheap though, and at the least they are going to be great milling practice. If you want something easy to build, spend ten times more, or just buy a complete gun. :P

Watch out with these. I had some on order, then they changed the product description to say not compatible with 1911 parts, so I canceled. Now there are new options that are supposedly 1911 compatible, but I think I'll let someone else test one and measure it first

Don`t bother with Sarco. Yes they have it in stock but it is junk. Get KTO frame. For 30 bucks you will get exactly what you payed for, paper weight. There are no parts on the market for double action frames.
