My first time was actually when I took my very first pistol I bought to the range, my G36. I was very surprised at how soft and manageable the recoil was, as well as how accurate it was.
If there's one thing Glock does REALLY well, it's their compact and subcompact lines. I'm honestly not really a fan of their full-size models (too blocky for my liking)

First time shooting a Glock was my first time shooting a handgun. A 19 and a 21. I had a lot of trouble trying to hit what I intended too or even maintain a decent group. I assumed handguns were just that much harder to shoot than a rifle. After many range trips and not much improvement, I bought a cz 75 and my grouping and aim improved significantly. Then came a P01, a 97b, and an emp, all of which I could shoot a lot better than glocks. I really wanted to like them and keep them but what's the point if I can't shoot them and they don't have collector value? I'm not bashing them. Maybe if I had a changed the sights I would have had better luck.

I can hardly remember what I had for breakfast let alone the first Glock I shot. Probably happened in the late 80's or early 90's. At some point I bought a Gen2 G19. It was basically a SHTF gun. It wasn't very accurate, but packed 17 rounds with a +2 extension. And it was my go to gun during the '92 riots. I still have it.
When this post popped up, I took it to the range. I still can't shoot it worth a damn. It's still not very accurate. The trigger and sights still suck. IMO there is a big performance difference between the G2s and G3s or G4s. The old 19 doesn't hold a candle to my Gen 3 G23 or Gen 4 G41 in any metric - except the soon to be irrelevant capacity department. As for my initial impressions of the Glock - meh. It sucked as bad as a lot of the other cheap semi-auto offerings of the day, but held more rounds which was its greatest selling point. |

Shot a G3 G22. Being a fan of the 40S&W, but not having mammoth hands I settled on a G23. Love it, dont shoot it too often anymore. Its my HD weapon though, loaded with defense rounds and a TLR2s light/laser, ready to go in a quick open safe. I have alot of other guns, but there is no point in disputing its reputation... I would expect nothing else but for it to work if I ever needed it to.
That said, I like it, but its far from my favorite handgun. I would pick my HK USP or my Beretta PX4 all day in terms of "what should I go shoot today at the range" (both also chambered in 40S&W) Its not just a hammer thing, I enjoy shooting my Canik just as well, its just 9mm... I may be a little biased though, I think the PX4 is one of the best looking polymer handguns made to date. Last edited by Maximus924; 01-16-2017 at 12:01 PM.. |

My first Glock experience was with a G17. Thought is was crap and swore I would never buy a single Glock. Then I tried out a G19 and bought 2.

First time shooting a Glock, well three of them (17, 19, & 26) was when I rented them at the range in Fresno. I was looking for my first handgun to buy and also something for my CCW. All three of them had failure to feed issues and it was embarrassing to take each one back to the counter and say they were having issues. The range master blamed me and said I was shooting limp wristed, which was bull. So I rented a M&P Shield and it shot flawlessly. (I eventually bought one as my first handgun because of this range trip) After I was done shooting the glocks, which are supposed to be known as the most reliable handgun you can buy, a different guy working behind the counter was bragging to my buddy that some of the guns they rent have never be cleaned and that at most they only clean their guns once a year. Since then I have purchased a Glock 19 and it has never had a failure to feed and I have also never stepped foot in that range again.

My first Glock fired was a G27 and only two years ago. It is my now carry gun. Listening to people complain about Glocks being ugly, bad fitting, not pointing well, etc. etc. is like listening to peoples' first World problems. Basically complaining about nothing worthwhile. I have many metal guns like Browning, Ruger, S&W, Dan Wesson, and 1911's. I choose to carry my G27 because of size and reliability. You pull the trigger and it goes Bang. I've had two malfunctions over the span of 1,500 round and both caused by me not holding the gun tight enough during drills. Other than that one range trip - everything else is simply flawless. I only care how a gun looks through the sight picture and mine looks just fine - thank you.

25 yrs ago when I was about 14yo and never had fired a handgun before. For my older cousin's bachelor party he took a bunch of us up to the mountains shooting-- a LE friend of his came with us. I knew nothing about guns at the time but still remember the firearms that were brought .
As far as handguns, the nice LE guy gave me his Glock 19 and my little 9yo brother a 6" .44mag. There was a bowling pin set up about 20 yards away. I could not believe how accurate I was w the Glock 19, unfortunately my brother's .44 mag wasn't shooting anywhere close to the pin, go figure!! Decades later though when I actually bought my first handgun it was a GP100. The rest is history since we all know what happens after you join this forum= 2 safes now. |

Back in 2010 when I was considering my first semi auto, I rented a Glock 19, S&W M&P9 and an SA-XD9. Eliminated the Glock immediately - the grip felt like I was holding a piece of a 2x4. Eventually, bought and M&P9 (since sold, never adjusted to the trigger) and later an SA-XD40.

Nothing to compare it to back in the day Gen 1 G17 one of the first pistols I ever shot, but I remember sometime after, the first time I ever shot a 1911, I was amazed at how narrow and heavy it was, and how much less felt recoil it had.

My first personal pistol was Hi Power, the FN Competition Model 9mm. It had a bad habit of stove piping.
Next was a 1911 colt series 80 spent 1300 bucks on mods for IPSC competition…wonderful shooter. Neither would be an appropriate CCW so my hunt ended with a Glock 27. It took about 200 rnds to learn to shoot skillfully, new sights, a G357 stock trigger change, and my own modified mag release, but well worth it for such a powerful small carry package. |

My first time shooting a Glock (G22) happened to also be the first time I fired a handgun so my first reaction was 'Hell Yeah!'
Coincidentally, that was exactly my first reaction when I first fired my XDs 9, my Heritage .22 revolver, my Mossberg 590, my M&P 40, my M&P Shield, all my other Glocks, my Savage XP, my friend's Desert Eagle ... so, pretty much the same for every gun |

I go back and forth. Originally I hated my glock, and hated .40. Recently took out the g22 and had a great time. Still prefer my 1911, but now I fit the glock in the rotation and get some range time in every now and then.
As for first impressions, did not like it. Still think it isn't that great and is way over hyped aside from reliability. But seeing as how I don't think I'll be fighting any zombies any time soon, that's not a big deal to me.

Before I got my Glock 19 I was at an indoor range shooting. Three young men had rented a Glock in 9mm. Not sure if it was a 17 or 19. But everytime they took a shot the magazine would fall out.
Then you hear about shootings where 100 rounds were discharged and the bad guy was hit only in the left pinkie and right ankle. You never heard of bad shooting like that 30 years ago when everyone had revolvers. |

Owned a Colt Delta Elite for 23 years. hand loaded 3000+/- rounds for it as ammo was expensive and in short supply. Shot the heck out of the 10mm... It was my only semi Auto Handgun.
Rented a G19.. Huh... it doesn't stove pipe.. or feed jam.. it always functions and I can string 10 quick rounds and stay on target... . I don't have to reload ammo because there is a lot of 9mm available and I can afford to shoot it a lot. It's lighter for carry and carries a lot more bullets. I purchased a G19 a few weeks later.. While I've had a bunch of Glocks I always transition back to the G19. In particular Gen II.... OH and yes I sold the Delta... Elite.. which was stupid. The jam issues were me not knowing to change out mag and recoil springs more often. But I don't miss it otherwise I'd of purchased another a long time ago.. when they were available still.. The Delta I sold to a guy who had to have it.. of course.

First time I shot a gen 3 G17 I swore I'd never own a glock. To this day, I still think it is one of the worst feeling pistols I have ever handled and I will never own one. Then the Gen 4's came out and that all changed. If you're a glock fan, the gen 4's really are that much better than the 3's as far as feel goes. Even then, I sold all my gen 4 glocks and don't regret it one bit. They just weren't for me(yes glock owners, there are other reliable good shooting pistols out there). I do however plan on keeping my G43 and G42. The all around package of these little pistols is what attracts me to them. They're just the right size, weight and capacity for their purpose. They're the only two glocks I see my self owning and I don't plan on selling them. If I want to carry something bigger, I'll gladly take my Sig P229.

My first thought was " wow this is the only 9mm of the night that didnt jam on me". This was a 3rd gen g17 and all the guns were dirty range rentals. I originally wanted a Beretta 92fs, but after this experiance I bought a g17 as my first gun. I happen to like xds more now, but will always respect the Glock.

Mid 80s my friends g19, after shooting my 226 and 228 was like this thing feels so damn cheaply made. The magazine was loose in the mag well, the sights sucked, when you rack the slide felt like 80 grit, the grip was so blocky felt like holding a bar of soap. And then thought for nearly $500 this thing looks horrendous. I was glad I purchased the Sigs. Same friend bought a SKS I got a Colt AR.

Early 1990's, I shot a friend's G17. I hated the feel (top-heavy and a plastic toy trigger) and really hated having to pull the trigger to field-strip, it struck me as incredibly unsafe.
Eventually I bought and still I own a G19, I still feel that pulling the trigger to field strip is unsafe, I check and re-check and re-re-recheck and then rack the slide several times to make sure that the chamber is clear and I still wince a little when I pull to take it down. |
