Just had my appointment today. Dropped off my Livescan form, had my picture taken, then fingerprints. How soon should I expect to hear back from them regarding acceptance/denial?

Just moved back to Stanislaus after a few years in Sac County. I thought Sac County was pretty quick, took a couple weeks to hear back, but sounds like Stanislaus might be even quicker.

Absolutely. Vince's class (http://www.valleydefense.com/) is great. Just had his class last week. $225 (for initial CCW) well spent. If you don't have holster or a firearm, talk to him before you enroll. He will likely be able to find you something to use for the range portion of the class.

Is it a fairly simple process? Is there anything that I need to tell him to prepare in advance? Psych eval, written test (like other counties e.g. San Benito), home visits, etc?

Here's my timeline:

5/20/18: Logged on to schedule appointment. Found one three weeks out.
6/11/18: Appointment lasted 20 minutes. Included showing my ID, turning in my LiveScan form, waiting to be called to go take my photo, then waiting to be called to take my fingerprints.
6/16/18: Received email confirming my permit had been approved.

I did not schedule my training course before getting my approval notice, but had I already completed my training and had the certificate in hand I could have uploaded it on 6/16 and been able to pick up my permit on 6/21. So all in all, roughly one month from the time you apply for an appointment to picking up your permit if you take your course beforehand.

As it stands, my course is this coming weekend so I'll be able to pick my permit up 7/12. Still under two months which is not bad at all considering the long waits in this county and others up until recently.

Do they even call your references? Theyíre quick over there. I donít know how they can get all of it done in a month when other counties take months.

You don't list references on the application.

It's not asked. They ask for previous addresses, spouse, employer, traffic violations, other personal questions, etc. But that's about it. Pretty painless application.

My CCW expires in October. The Sheriff's website pdf says to submit your fees and renewal application 60 days in advance of expiration. Is thats still true? I know the new system speeds things up and if I submit it too soon then when they approve it, that will move my expiration date up for the next time.

Yes.
Definitely do it early.
I almost didnt have coverage but i lucked out in that they approved my ccw the day that it expired.
I submitted it like a week or two before the expiration date just because I was having a hard time finding a renewal class.
Dont be like me.

I just did a change of address and swapped a gun. Took about two weeks to be notified that it was ready. I picked it up yesterday. It took less than ten minutes including sitting in the lobby and waiting to be called.

I just moved from San Joaquin myself.

I'm almost due for a renewal there. I called them to let them know I moved out of the county and they said I have 90 days to turn in my permit.

For Stanislaus my timeline so far:

Initial online form: Jul 12
Initial appointment date: Aug 6

Initial online form for wife: Jul 19
Reschedule appointment: Aug 13 so we both go at same time.

Training: Vince @ Delta Defense (Awesome Class!!!)

Sucky part is, we already have a permits in California, but we have to start the whole process over for both of us and take the 16 hour class.

Hopefully I get my StanCo permit before my SJCo permit expires

As soon as you moved your permit became invalid.

According to the San Joaquin website documentation:

Quote:
Permit holders must, within 10 days of occurrence(s), report any of the following
to the San Joaquin County Sheriffís Office. Contact the Professional Standards
Division (209) 468-4342.

1. Change of address or name.

When I called the department at the number, they stated I have 90 days before I have to turn it in.

A CCW permit is issued by county. Once you do not live in that county your permit is not valid. San Joaquin's notification of move has nothing to do with validity of your permit. Call Stanislaus sheriff's office and ask if you don't believe me.

Wife and I had CCW through City of Modesto.
Ten days after our address was outside the city limits our permits became invalid.
Even if we were still in Stanislaus county, invalid.

(moved to AZ)

Most are issued by sheriff. You are a rare case.

I remember that, think we went to breakfast when you were in the process and I had just barely gotten my permit and like a month later you had yours.
I was thinking wow, that was extremely fast lol.
