I'd start with that, then put a little more $ aside and buy a gun safe.

5k rounds of ammo considering the new ammo laws.

I have narrowed it down to about 10 prospects including a cajonized sp01, Kimber Target II, EMP, And several other 1911’s. I will post when the winner is in jail.

People who buy Springfields do it because either A: They want to dip their toe into the 1911 category and want something decent without spending a lot, B: Can't afford to buy a better 1911, and C: End up selling their Springfield in the Marketplace here on Calguns when they finally shoot somebody else's quality 1911 and realize they should buy one of those instead.

It's not that they aren't good guns and don't work well, they are and they do. But if you look at the for sale section, they are all to prevalent, and it makes you wonder why?

And...the winner is...

CZ 75 Compact 9mm!

At exactly 1/2 my budget out the door BNIB. I have lots of dough left over for ammo and possible upgrades later (after 500 rounds or so). OR, another handgun; OR, fancy targets; OR, all of it! The Bank of the Almighty Goddess is pleased and congratulated me on my wisdom and frugality.

I realize the OP has chosen his gun. Congrats. Can't go wrong with a CZ 9mm.

You're wrong.

The $950 - $1250 (half rail MC Operator) "Loaded" Springfields are keepers. No modifications necessary. Ok, maybe grips... but these things are SHOOTERS. They'll run reliably for tens of thousands of rounds, even hundreds of thousands if you do your part with cleaning and oiling.

Buy a Springfield Loaded. Then buy more magazines, buy a ton of ammo, use up the ammo (but always! keep a prudent reserve , repeat.

Are there even "better" 1911s out there? Sure! But if they were half as accurate as they are they'd still be twice as accurate as they need be. Point being: many of us might never shoot up to the gun. The Loadeds are great 1911s. Don't let anyone fool you, there.

I'm not wrong. I never said they weren't good or not reliable. In fact I said that they are good guns. However, the reasons most people buy one can't be denied. They feel they are getting the most bang for their buck for their budget. They probably are. However, I've never seen another 1911 that even comes close to being as readily available on the secondhand market. Ask yourself why, and then refer back to my original post. People buy them, shoot them, and then sell them. Maybe not you, but so, soooo many people do.

Attend training. Go to NRA Basic Pistol and follow it up with any 2-4 day defensive pistol class from an instructor on this list:

https://rangemaster.com/2019-tactical-conference/

Attend MAG-40 with Ayoob if at all possible.

What do you think? All advice is welcome. Thanks!
I got the Advantage Arms 22 Conversion from the Glock Store and a Glock 17 OD to put it on. That is a fun gun on the range. I have the Glock 19 for CCW/HD too.

OP,

Both of your current pistols are, in my experience, a little large for an EDC CCW pistol.

I would look at a G26 (on roster) or, even better, a G43, Shield 9mm/.45, P365.

A smaller carry pistol is a real revelation of comfort, convenience and of course, concealment.

As I understand it, getting a CCW in the bay area is near impossible.

Wish it were an option.

Good luck with your selection.

Depends on how you define Bay Area:

Northbay counties are a go: Napa, Sonoma, and Solano.

OP, grats on your choice! I love shooting my CZ 75b; great ergos, smooth shooting, and nice weight.

Tons of liberals up there. When I lived there nobody could get a CCW unless they came from the middle of nowhere up by Eureka.
