Default Sun Devil 80% Billet PaperWts

Sun Devil 80% Billet PaperWts –1st Batch Ordered!!

1st Batch - Order Status/Update
Payment received by Sun Devil...
Waiting for anodizing, the PWts should ship to me next week...

8/12 7:40pm --- No Update
8/13 10:30am - Still at anodizing... getting closer to shipping...
8/19 11:32am - Per conversation w/SD, PWts should ship to me by Tuesday 8/24...
8/26 05:27pm - UPS Tracking
8/31 2:25 pm - Package Arrived - Will check tonight and ship as required tomorrow.

.................................................. .................................................. .............

What is this… another 80% Buy…
However, this time the 80% PaperWt are high quality Billet, manufactured by Sun Devil.

For years, I’ve loved Sun Devils’ upper/lower combo. When it comes to quality of material, fit, finish, weight , and durability very few compare…

If you want an other 80%'er these are wicked…

Specs. :
  • CNC Machined from SOLID BILLET
  • Stronger than castings or polymer receivers
  • Many areas reinforced heavier than GI spec.
  • Tension Screw – eliminates any unwanted "slop" between upper and lower for superior accuracy.
  • Finishes in Satin Black Hard Anodized or non-Anodized
  • No hammer or trigger holes.
  • No Sun Devil Manufacturing roll marks.
  • Includes one Tension Screw per Dummy Receiver

Pricing and Options:
  • Dummy Receiver Billet - $119.00
  • Billet Slick Side Upper - $ 170.00
  • Basic Engraving - $45.00
  • Custom Engraving - $ TBD
  • Shop Time for U-CNC Build / Bay Area Appointment Only - $85.00
  • LPK’s and other components avail for U-CNC Build - $ TBD
  • Shipping $6.00 for the first plus $12 for up to 5
Payment MO only…

If you are interested post here and pop me a pm...

These are in production now with a delivery 2 weeks for non-Anodized and 4 weeks for Satin Black Hard Anodized…

Here a few pics of the process...
The Start

CNC making chips...

Custom Engraved...

More pics to follow...

Hell, I'm in for two. Please let me know when/where to send the MO.

The U-CNC, what - I drop it in the machine, hit the button, and the program is already to run?

This is awesome.
I would definitely be into something like this in so-cal where someone instructs you on the machining.

Just curious, if one orders the anodized pwt and have it cnc'd, how do you goabout anidizing the drilled areas?
Thanks

I was wondering about this also. Aren't you just going to have to have it re-anodized? I don't see the benefit to having it done before the receiver is completed.

If it is anything like the other paperweights I've seen, the main area to be CNC'ed would be the fire control group (FCG). It would have a solid pocket which would need to be milled out, but that part will be covered by the upper receiver. Normally on these, the buffer tube area is already drilled out and tapped (a PITA) and the magwell is already to spec.

The other work you would need to do is mark and drill the takedown/pivot holes, bolt catch, FCG holes, drill and tap the pistol grip hole as well IIRC. Those will be covered by the various parts you stick in them.

If you were to send out an 80% for anodizing afterwards, I think it would be around $35-$40 when I last looked into it a year or two ago.

Ordering an already anodized paperweight mean everything exposed is already in the black except for the S/N and ID info.

The only thing that would really show in the white would be the S/N and other engraving if you were to order that option.

The purpose of the anodizing is to harden the aluminum. If you drill the trigger pin and hammer pin holes after you've anodized you will expose new, bare aluminum and risk wearing those areas and enlarging the holes.

A Moly or Dura Coat is also an option...

The main thing is for corrosion prevention and surface hardness. For a low stress hole like the trigger and hammer pin, I highly doubt those holes will have any sort of noticeable wear

The price sucks, the billet lowers such (forged ones are so much better), and I heard of a guy who heard of a guy on barf.com who had a problem with Sun Devil, it should be boycotted.

There, better?

With that out of the way, I'm considering them. I just got several 80% lowers, but I've heard good things about SunDevil.
