Talking The Cronicles of Noob (Pictures and Progress)

My first upper is complete! It's a mutt, but it looks damn sexy to me!

BCM BFH 16" barrel $340
Tactical Intent A2 Flash Hider $20
UTG Pro Rifle Length Free Floating Quad Rail $90
Daniel Defense LP Gas Block $40
Unmarked upper receiver $140. There are no MFG markings.
Just sold my TR-Enabling BCG $210 so I need to find a new one now.
Need Optics, a light, a forward grip, and BUS.

Here are some dead sexy pics:

Guess what? I have a Bravo Company Complete Lower on the way from Rainier Arms. Got my shipping notice today. Now you know why I sold by BCG today.

F%CK NO! Haha. I wanna shoot it. One thing I keep forgetting though is the fact that I am nearly 100% complete and still don't own a single round of 5.56 or 223.

Thanks I'll start watching the deals thread. I almost got in on some Brown Bear the other day but their site crashed before I could place an order.

Thanks guys. It's one of those things I want to show my friends. Unfortunately I don't make a habit of showing off my guns.

Lakai these UTG rails are nice, the only other rail I'd spend more money on is the Fortis Rev 12. Love that 9oz rail.

that UTG rail looks really good for the price.

Make sure you invest some money in a good BCG.

Two most important parts of the rifle to insure excellent function and accuracy is the BCG and the barrel

beautiful rifle congrats!

Congrats. The good news is that there is ammo to be had... It's just pricey.

It'll be awhile before I can buy a crate of ammo at these prices. I realize I should probably be stocking up but I'm smart enough to not buy stocks when they're at their highest. The paranoise will tell me to buy as much as I can before the world ends though. To them I say "my 45ACP will be worth much more".

At least you get to look at it and fondle it.
Might as well be a club with out any ammo.
Where do you live I would be willing to loan you a box of ammo to try it out.

Well, I thought I ordered some ammo, but I just got my back order email 2 days later. I knew 100 rounds for $50 was too good to be true. lol

Looks good OP…

I’ve seen those rails… I just don’t like slotted lugs…

I use a lot of Larue products even for accessories and material is missing right where the lug is on the Larue mounts.

Granted I mount optics to my upper receiver, I just see things like this and it makes me sad.

Took me a sec to figure out you were referring to the Fortis rail. Didn't think about the slots being an issue. I don't own one yet but I really like the 9.6oz weight of the 12" model.

Get rid of that UTG rail man. Get a Daniel defense or a Geissele.

You'll be much happier in the long run.

It's not the prices. A lot of people are offended if you don't spend at least $300 on your rail.

Friendly advice brother...

You'll be sufficiently offended once you realize you just spent any $$ on stuff like UTG.

You're right. My next build will probably include a nicer rail. This was kind of a rush job for me. I've already got my 2nd lower ready to go.

Just finished a tactical machining lower today. I won't be mating it with this upper, this was just a fit test. Good snug fit. Will also finish a JD billet soon.

I'm definitely getting that rail. After having the UTG Pro for a short time I realized the benefit of a modular lightweight.

Well it looks like my precision AR build will be my next project. My CQ AR project is winding down. Going to install the Fortis REV 12" and Rainier XTC on my new BCM 16" Middy. Slap it together with my BCM lower and call that rifle done. Ill probably put an Aimpoint on it soon.

For my precision the only thing I have so far is the VLTOR upper rec. I'm considering buying a Black Hole 20" bull or Rainier match barrel if they ever stock them again. Probably go with a fortis REV 14" when they come out. Undecided on my rifle optic still. Lower will be whatever is available or maybe one of my 80%s. Timney trigger.

That's all I have planned out. Which is funny to me because I was only supposed to build one AR.

Well got my 2 VLTOR MUR-1S' in the mail today. I bought the second one for my friend, who's also the guy who bought my complete upper. He said he wanted to upgrade to the MUR-1 so I told him I'll do the swap for him....

What a pain in the ***. The MUR is nice of course, but the UTG mounting system is NOT compatible with it. The way the bolts thread in to the barrel nut conflicts with the new thickness of the MUR. Bummer. Very carefully i did some shaving of the UTG hardware, NOT THE MUR. After a couple trims and a lot of careful struggling, I got all 4 bolts back where they need to be. Here's the [not so] funny thing. Those bolts are in there for good. If he ever wants to change the barrel, GB, or rail, those bolts will need to be cut off. So he'll probably need a new rail.

Lesson learned. If you plan on using a MUR, stay away from this type of rail mounting system. I'm not sure how many other brands of rails use it.

Or you could just stay away from UTG entirely...
