Default Mossberg 930SPX -Trap/Skeet Barell

Need one to swap in and out when the mossberg doesn't have the 18" tactical on it.

Want to shoot trap and skeet, possibly game.

Needs a choke? Which kind to get? accuchoke?

Length 24" 28" 30"?

Bead? Long fiber at the end?

Vent rib vs non vent rib? why?

Personal opinion here... YMMV

I prefer the 24 inch and have a ported one for my 500. Longer barrels are okay and all for some applications, but shotgun shells burn out in 18 inches or a bit less so you don't really gain anything in terms of velocity with super long barrels. I shoot clays and will be hunting with the one I have. It's fast handling and balances very well.

Accu-Choke is Mossberg's brand name for their tubes. I strongly recommend going with a choke tube set up for maximum flexibility off a single barrel. I can shoot clays, turkey, waterfowl and upland birds all with the same gun and barrel. You'll probably find over time that you will buy some aftermarket tubes what are extended out the front of the barrel for ease of use/change.

The barrel I have for my 500 has a very generous white bead up front and a small gold mid-bead. While I had thought that mid-beads on that length of barrel were not really needed, I have found it does help get a good line. I'm still evaluating the stock bead in contemplation of a fiber optic.

Vent rib will give you a nice flat plane to sight over that lines up nicely with the receiver. It also will break up heat waves a bit.

I was looking into getting a 930spx as well and I had/have the exact same question. I did a search but couldn't really find a resource for getting a 26"/28"/30" replacement barrel for shooting clays. . . .

Check the Mossberg site at http://www.mossberg.com/products/acc...section=access.

930 barrels are at the bottom of the page. You might be able to find them a bit cheaper at Midway, Cabelas or one of the other online big boxes. The 28 inch waterfowl seems to be what you have in mind, only comes with one tube so you'd have to pickup more if you wanted the versatility.

so what brand barrell / choke setup? anyone recommend specific ones?

Sounds like I want a vent rib 24" with some sort of choke, a bead in front...

what do you think? What does it mean , full choke only like I can't change the choke to a choke thats more spread out? if I were shooting clays for instance?

You can call Mossberg to confirm, but my understanding is that the barrel ships only with one choke tube. I could be wrong, but there you go.

Correct, if the barrel only comes with one tube. They're not outrageously expensive, a fraction of the cost of a barrel.

Take a look at choketube.com, They have pretty much everything and anything. Carlson's tubes are the best aftermarket there are.

Any particular wrench you'd recommend?
