You can thank the feminist movement of the 60's and skinny jean wearing, my little pony watching metro sexual men for that....

I suspect the women who volunteer for military service and combat duties might also have something to do with it.

I remember listening to the fire fight live on the radio when the SLA was trapped in a house by the police.

Historically, remember the pot-smoking draft-dodging Bill Clinton was the one to disregard the recommendations from the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) and allow a significantly greater role for women in combat.

Rather ironic don't you think?

I take a different view on women in combat, one that is more analytical. I think war is horrible and should be avoided if at all possible. If the thought of sending beautiful women to their death makes politicians avoid armed conflict, then I think that's a good thing. If armed conflict can't be avoided, then I think it is better for our species to have the population reduced evenly across the two genders instead of all losses occurring in the male population.

Most sci-fi battles of the future show both men & women in combat, because the physical strength advantage of men will be more than offset by all the advanced technology. Of course, this would also require a huge shift in the sexual norms and attitudes, and in the majority of those sci-fi stories, the male & female soldiers are also screwing like rabbits. Sci-fi authors are usually geeks with a lot of repressed issues...

Consider this my friends; the awesome man-to-woman ratio after a large-scale war. Is it any mystery why the 50's was the baby-boom? Duh...

In the late 1980s, I worked for the Ventura Division of Northrop that used to be the old "Radioplane Company" where Norma Jeane had worked in 1945. It wasn't at the same location that Norma Jeane worked. At some point in history, the division had moved to Newbury Park. I was only there a little over a year. That was a tough time for Northrop, they had 3 big layoffs in the year I was there. They closed the Newbury Park facility a year or so after I left.

Yes, that would slow her down - so, I did a little internet research.

Looks like a .50 rifle and a .50 BMG as well as a few other small arms - one AK with a "few" spare mags
And about two dozen military personal off the edge of frame.
*Following pics each came from separate sites -

.50 rifle.

Wide shot = see truck posters - .50 Ma Deuce was set up on the back of a pick-up ALA Somalian technical.

Personnel assembling M2 for camera, see chopper in BG - broken spade grips.

M2 assembled - certainly enough to take down a plane or chopper, in the right hands.

Back to OP thread, an SVT in use, another time another place:

Our LEOs complain about being "outgunned" by the bad guys - but jeez, compared to the guys South of the border facing a Ma Deuce...

Here's a pretty powerful picture - I have no idea where or when this was taken. Can you tell from the rifle or the bayonet?

lol - when that poster says "every bomb-load counts" and "production wins wars", are they talking about producing weapons or more soldiers?

Back in the day they were called "leggings". Now they are called "gaiters". Google em and you'll find many different styles.
