Default home Burglary 1 gun is home Update August 2015

Update August 2015, I searched the name of one of the burglars, Darius Esters and found this article from July 2014 http://blog.sfgate.com/crime/2014/07...-gang-arrests/.

CAMERA INFO
By popular demand, ive been asked about 10 times about the camera system i was using.
Its just a simple cheap 250$ 4 camera DVR system you can connect to your internet router from costco.

Its made by Q-see and has connections for 8 cameras buy only comes with 4.
It has a 500 GB hard drive and can range from a week to a few weeks depending on quality, cameras and settings.

I recently upgraded to a 8 camera system for 399$ also Qsee brand.

Once you connect it to your home internet router you can use a app called IP Cam Viewer which you can see your cameras from your phone or tablet computer etc anything that has access to the internet.

Sorry to hear, very unfortunate.

Did they take anything else or was it targeted towards the firearms only?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. You can bet I'll be voting no on Prop 36. This is the type of "minor crime" that proponents of this initiative are talking about. I don't care how much it costs, I want to incarcerate those petty thieves forever.

Who knows, maybe Lady Luck will smile on you and you'll get your guns back.

Sorry for your misfortune.

If they knew where the cameras were to cut them, it would appear that your place was cased before the burglary. There sadly isn't a defense against a well prepared crook with the time to do advance homework.

If they are teens on probation, they could something as little as house arrest.

If the judge decides to nail them for burglary, they might get 9 months in a county probation camp.

20 years?

Never gonna happen.

That is not how the system works.

It rewards teen crime with leniency out of a mistaken belief that leniency promotes some sort of affection for the legal system.

I've seen teens literally get away with not only attempted murder but even murder.

Dude is lucky he got one pistol back.

I would invest in some barrier technology so as to prevent another penetration of his domicile.

Now that the perps know the victim is a gun owner, so do their Homies.

Guess what happens next.

Another crew shows up to find his new guns.

And so it goes . . .

. . . until Det. Ludlow catches up with them . . .

Heh. Heh.

Glad they got one of them!

My house got broken into about 5 years ago when we were all gone. They went in through the kids bedroom window sometime before 11am. After ransacking their room and stealing all their change, they "tried" to go to the other rooms in the house. Luckily we had a 9 year old Rottweiler (RIP) who was waiting outside the kids room for whomever to come out of there. They didn't make it any further, and went right back out the window. Good ol' girl scared him away.

Long story short they caught him a few months later and had his fingerprints associated with almost a dozen other homes. He made a deal for 8 years.

I went out and bought a CCTV system after that and have had it ever since.

Unfortunate, though ever so common.. I understand any advice is now a little too late, but get a dog if your residence allows. & don't just lock 'em up; hide 'em. Hope our boyz in blue can catch these horse sh*ts and return your firearms to ya.

Hearing this more often. Alarm might be next for me as well. As for the gunvault, I might bolt mine down now. Slow them down and let the alarm do it's thing.

Thanks for the info. Sorry about your loss.

10:30am is an odd time to rob a home, no? Unless they are familiar with your routines? Or maybe it's the ideal time...I don't know.... If you don't mind me asking, single family home? Apartment complex? Rough area?

Its a very common time of day. Most people are at work. They must have known his routine, they knew enough that he had cameras.

Around here the burglars throw a rock through a window. They then wait about 15 minutes. If there is no response from the inside or outside (dogs, alarms, cops & etc) they just walk inside and take their time. If they are caught throwing rocks its a vandalism charge and they get a ticket and walk. Others ring the door bell and ask something stupid if someone answers the door. Most residential burgs are during the daytime.

Actually 10:30 am is not odd at all. There are actual statistics that point to most robberies happening in those hours due to the fact that people are at work. I need to look it up to see what exact hours.

Neighbors house was broken into at around 11:00 AM several years ago and someone came into our backyard and took some scrap metal during the day also a long time ago.

I've also had suspicious people knock on my door in the morning hours asking for donations. Problem was after I told them I had no money they would leave and keep walking without stopping at any other houses.

Sorry to hear about that, really sucks. 10:30am seems like a normal time, they would rather burglarize a home while the residents are at work than when they're sleeping at night. My car was recently broken into between 6:30-7:00PM on a weekday... I had been outside for an hour, came inside to eat for 30min, and while I was inside someone cleaned out the vehicle right in front of my house (thank god I didn't have any guns in the trunk). THAT seems like a weird time to me, and I'm kicking myself for leaving the blinds closed in the dining room or I would've seen them.

Hopefully they get what's comin to em. Also, dog>alarm, no doubt in my mind.

Crappy neighbor man, good job on having the DVR.

I added some cheapy IP cams to the front of my house, get emails with pix whenever there's movement on the driveway & porch. (wife thinks I'm nuts)

Or GSD / Malinois. They will all scare the crap out of a perp and have awesome guarding and protective instincts...and should be great with kids assuming they've been raised properly.

We live in a bad neighborhood and when we walk the Mal and Husky day or night, the bangers who walk around move to the other side of the street.

forget AM Staff pits... Rotts or Bull Mastiff. Pits get stolen DAILY to be used a dog trainer tools. So unless you are willing to teach your dog to be a killer and live with that responsibility then DON'T GET A SMALL PIT BREED.

Thugs who steel from houses also have been dealing with small pit breeds longer then you. They know how to control the dog long enough to safely lead it away. How do you think all the lost and stolen pits happen? The breed is NOT A NATURAL BORN KILLER like you think. They are playful and trusting when you know how to handle them.

You want a dog as security, but are not willing to teach/train it to kill.. then you need a huge dog that BDs are not used to handling...like a large Rotty or Masiff... Ridgeback, Wolfhound... ect.

Default This calls for a Party!

I will bring a 1.75 bottle of Jack Daniels to a ,Welcome Home Stolen Guns, party, and or, another adult beverage equal in size bottle to a, Going-Away, party for the burglary creep.

Somewhat off topic, but has the CA state DROS database ever been compromised?

I ask because of THIS story in Austrailia, where a very specific rash of burglaries against gun owners in New South Wales took place. The government of course denied the possibility of the Gun Registry being compromised, but check out this quote:

One robbery victim had eight guns stolen within months of being audited by police and his new address added to the registry.

"I was audited in May last year and robbed in October. I had eight weapons stolen from a secure safe," the victim said. I live in an estate of 70 homes and was the only place robbed. To me it was obvious I was targeted with information from somewhere.

Its not impossible that a crooked cop or city/state employee is selling or passing on DROS information to the wrong side of the law. It may also be the case that the bad guys simply hacked into the DROS system and stole the data digitally. In either event if a burglar had DROS information available, they'd have a literal map for exactly which residents to hit and what "payday" they can expect in the gunsafe.

Unfortunately , there's no way to prove the database was compromised before the OP's burglary. Even if it did happen I doubt the CA government would be in a hurry to fess up to security breach, and they'd be even less forthcoming if a city employee were passing on gun owner data to criminals.
