If you are sure that you are going to go, please post here a day or two before the shoot requesting a ride. We can arrange for someone with a truck to meet you at the dirt road turnoff at a specified time to take you across (for example 8am or 9am). It's not a problem, come out!

OH!

My last trip to WEGC there were two BMW's (or some luxury sedan) parked on the freeway side of the river. I was wondering what they were doing...

That makes sense

If it rains 1" Saturday the creek will be raging Sunday. Let's hope no C&R guns get washed away inside trucks making a dash for it.

better safe than sorry when it comes to lytle creek.

Hmm, should we coordinate some kind of pick up before the creek just in case if the creek is flooding due to the rain this weekend? How does 8:30am sound?

Let's see how bad tomorrow's rain is. It could be clear Sunday but depending on how much comes down Saturday it could still be impassible. My pavement queen 2wd truck is only capable of so much.

Here is a link to creek levels. Right now it's 1 cu/ft/s

https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ca/nwis/u...cd=00065,00060

If it gets to above 3 things get hairy. The creek has flowed recently at 40,000 gpm. That's an Olympic sized swimming pool.

For those that need a ride across the creek, we have a couple of volunteers that will meet you at the turnoff to the dirt road and take you to the range in a truck.

First ride will be at 8:00am
Second ride will be at 9:00mm

Please post here if you need a ride, and the time that you will meet at the creek.

For those that are not aware, Daylight saving time starts tonight

See you all tomorrow!

I should be there at 0800 with my Jeep if anyone needs a ride. Also, anyone interested in doing a Arisaka volley fire tomorrow? Just loaded some 6.5 for my Type-38.

We might need a ride in the morning depending on the creek condition. Will try to be there by 8am or so.

It's pretty wet up here now. A steady light rain for the last 3-4 hours and supposed to rain through the morning.

Awesome shoot today. The creek wasn't bad at all!

Vityaz will post results of the antique and garbage rod shoot. Lots of fun as well.

I didn't take many pictures but here's a few

Oh, so much fun! Thanks to the respective owners of the M53, Brazilian M1935, Israeli Mauser sniper rifles, and the BREN for letting me try them out! And glad you guys liked the Jungle Carbine with my "cat sneeze" light hand loads. Great seeing everyone as well. I think the new guy (didn't catch your screen name) enjoyed himself as well. The antique and Garbage shoots were fun; what are we doing next month?

Okay, so Black Magic won the antique shoot! We had multiple winners for the garbage rod shoot (Mostly shooting Beetle Bailey's rifle!), SyntaxError, Yauzer, Saki302, and Beetle Bailey. Don't worry though, you're all winners to me.

I believe the new guy was Yauzer, great having you out!

For the next shoot, I think we should do "Throwing spears that also double as rifles." So an example would be a full length Type-38 with bayonet fixed or a Gewehr 98. Let me know what you think!

I'm up for that, I've got some REALLY long rifles. M91 Mosin w/bayonet, Persian 98/29 w/bayonet, Trapdoor w/bayonet.

I'll bring an M91 that shoots well, high five to myself for 1/5 hits with the Antique M91

Great seeing everyone again. We had most of the shooting benches that were occupied today just for our group and the creek was maybe a little lower than it was at the last shoot. The rain stopped and we had no wind so it was perfect for shooting.

Thanks to James and Phillip for letting me shoot the Bren and Isreali snipers.

See everyone next month.

My longest rifle is a Swiss G1911 (30.5 inch barrel) but I don't have a bayonet that fits it. So do I use that? Or my Persian Mauser M98/29 since I do have the bayo for that one?

81turbota, that antique M91 was very cool! I wish I had a better look at the markings on the barrel shank, as well as the rest of that Three-Line Rifle.

It was tons of fun guys! The weather was actually quite great, nice cool weather with no rain or wind the whole day. Creek crossing was very easy to go through.

Thanks James for letting me try out that Bren. Super cool.

And both James and Phillip for letting me shoot those Israeli K98 sniper rifles. Really awesome!

BTW, thanks to Philip I spent all last night looking at trap door Springfields on gunbroker...

Weird, I just checked my wallet and I have my range card with me. I'll double check with Danny. I think I did leave a jacket at the range though.

Oh, there was a range membership card with the same first name as yours, plus an Asian sounding last name. I remember thinking that I thought your last name was different but just shrugged and told the RO I'd let you know.

Someone did turn in a grayish jacket into the office as well, so maybe that was yours?

Oh, and for the "Spear That Shoots Bullets" match I will bring my Persian M98/29 and my Swedish M96, both with bayonets. For a match like that, I want to shoot it with bayo attached, or what would be the point?

We thought it was Ken or Richard's jacket- I guess it wasn't!!

I hit 5/5 with the M91, but 3/5 with the M28/30. That extra length really adds stability for offhand shots, despite those HORRIBLE sights.

I went 5/5 with my M28, but only 3/5 with the M39! Who had the M28/30?

And for next time, I already have ammo loaded for my Persian M98/29. Can't wait!

I had a 28/30- it shot much better after my gunsmith buddy did a short counterbore.
On examination, it looks like it got dropped in the past, dented right at the muzzle, and some idiot ground out the ding with god-knows-what. Not a proper barrel crown.

It went from a pie plate gun to decent groups with the one change.

I wish it had the trigger of your mosin though

I think the "shade tree gunsmith" method of creating a barrel crown is to take a bolt with a rounded head, stick it in your drill, and use the rounded end to clean up the crown after you shorten the barrel with a hacksaw!

Regarding the trigger on my M28, it was like that when I got it. I bought it about 13 years ago and disassembled it as soon as I got home. There is a mousetrap spring attached to the trigger (I assume this was done in Finland) and since I didn't trust myself to take it apart, all I did was blast it with a solvent and then drench it with CLP.

Have not taken the action out of the stock since then. IIRC one of the barrel band screws is stripped so I don't want to take it apart unless necessary. It is the only M28 I have ever shot so I assumed it was normal for that model. It is a great trigger
