Default MP5 clone?

I have this desire to get an MP5 clone for some reason. I know GSG makes the .22lr versions. Does anyone make a decent 9mm version that's not like $2k+?!

I have no idea why I want one, but I just do! Seems like it would be a fun gun to shoot at tin can alley. (This is how I ended up with a lever action! Just because)

I'm all ears!

I don't think you will find one for cheap. $1800-$2k seems to be what even the clones go for.

And they are not all great even in the 2k price range.

I would recommend a Coharie Arms CA-94. Unfortunately the recent panic will only drive price upward. But prior they were on GunBroker selling for $1200-1700.

Keep the recommendations coming!

Maybe I'll get a GSG .22lr instead.

Anyone in the Bay Area know LGSs that stock any of these (GSGs included)? Hopefully the hysteria hasn't reached the rimfire toys yet!

If you are going to get the .22, get the "HK" Umarex MP5 .22 clone. A little more expensive than the GSG, but much higher build quality. Big 5/Turners has them around $450-$500.

I would recommend an MKE AT94 A2 if you can find it. Mine has run flawlessly.

MKE 94 best clone I've seen. Shoots so smooth so fun.

Good luck finding one they were getting hard to find before this stupid panic crap.

Careful buying a clone there are some that have a lot of issues. Check the forums at HKPro to research.

I third the MKE 94. They are make in Turkey on actual H&K tooling. It just doesn't say H&K, but the quality is there. So your essentially getting a real hk94

Yep.. this is what I got right before the insanity.. $1800 and it has a VERY good reputation.. ready for FA with a licensed sear kit

http://www.hkpro.com/forum/d-j-getz-...9mm-rifle.html

You can spend more.. but this seems to be a good value.

Yup, flawless. So smooth, my son loves to shoot it too. It was my grail gun for a very long time. No reasonable offer could be enough to sell it.

Love my MKE AT94...

There was actually someone in the classifieds who was selling one for $950 last week I think... needless to say it last about "two seconds" before it sold especially at that price.

Uhhh made on HK tooling and 'licensed' by HK...essentially it is an HK, just manufactured at a different country and stamped with a different name. Saying it is not HK unless it is made in Germany is a weakpoint. Thats like saying all the Toyotas built outside of Japan aren't real Toyotas! Hahaha I guess you also believe a gun isn't a real HK unless it was built with German hands.

Just to note, MKE is not a private or family owned company....it is a government ran company that manufactures military firearms for the Turkish military.

As an owner of the gsg-5 that just got mine running again from yet another failure, avoid all gsg products. I'd sell mine but to subject someone else to a gsg product borders on criminality

The best MP5 style rifle you can get for under $1000 is the H&K/Umarex MP-5 .22LR rifle.
A decent 9x19mm MP5 style rifle can be had in the $1500-2000 range.
A great 9x19mm MP5 style rifle can be had for $2000-3000.

The last great MP5 style rifles to hit the civilian market were the ATI imported MKE made firearms. Unfortunately, they are no longer being imported and the last shipment came and went in Q2 2012. They initially sold in the $1000-1200 range. They now sell on the auction sites for $2000-3000.

I think Vector arms makes rifles *similar* to MP5s but with a few differences, it's something to look into. I know they've got a lot of HKish rifles.

I've had NOTHING but trouble with my Vector MP5-40 clone. I would recommend going ot HKPro.com, finding a builder and having one built for you. (going to run you $3K) but at least you know it will work.

What's wrong with your 5-40? I've been thinking of rolling the dice on a 94k..

What isn't. I've replace virtually every part possible with HK parts and it STILL has FTE's with different kinds of ammo. I've even replaced the barrel b/c it wasn't shooting brass cased ammo straight (but WOULD shoot steel cased ammo straight) IDK!

It's been back to Vector 2x AND to Mike Turner in AZ to be tuned and it still isn't very reliable.

yes, I had to sand down the molding marks, then I used some PlastiDip on the grip section to increase the "grippy-ness"

+1 I have an MKE AT94 and it has run flawless right out of the box. Here is a pic of mine after the first 30 rounds. The distance was 25 yards .

The ATI stuff is great, I really regret not getting one when they were available. I've drooled over a few ATI/MKE 94Ks..

Atlantic used to sell one I don't see it on their site anymore.

IMO the only way to go is the ATI MKE94 I've never seen a bad review. Only complaint I've seen is the rifle version has the mag well blocks so you ca only use 10rdn mags.

Words can't describe how fun it is to shoot.

Found it.. its call VR9 SF, and its suspeciously cheaper then usual roller block clone.
I guess if you want to upgrade your clone with German parts, this will the model to stay away from.

The mag blocks are easily removed in <10 mins, just make sure you are 922r compliant

Check out Sig new line of MPX firearm. It's new and it looks very simular to the MP5s. They have it in 9mm, 357, and 40cal

Whatever you do do not buy a Hesse. What a chunk of poo.

The makers of Hesse made clones under several names. Hopefully someone will post those names so you can avoid them too

If only they made one in .45, that would be a must buy. Might get one if they are in the $1000 range, i highly doubt it though.

I dont know why i love pistol caliber rifles, but i do.
