Lightbulb Webinar: How to Restore Your Firearm Rights in California

Hey everyone - this is my first post. My friend, Sam (who's also an attorney), is running a Free webinar this Sunday on how to restore you 2nd Amendment Rights in California.

I'm assuming many of you already have your rights but if someone you know is struggling to restore their rights, this webinar gives you the tools and information necessary to restore your rights yourself.

It's this Sunday (6/24) at 3PM PST.

You’re new here. We don’t have rights. This is kalifornia, not America. There are, oddly enough, many paths to firearms rights in kalifornia. They all start with the word interstate and end with the word east.

Is your webinar for a moving company?

“Restore your rights” in the figurative way, as handcuffed Californians?

Or “restore your rights” in a literal way, like an ex-felon?

Well this is a way for those who lost their firearm rights - because of a felony or misdemeanor - to legally restore their firearm rights in California. Sam is the attorney and has prepared an extensive webinar showing how to do this.

Yes, through the legal system, you can restore your rights if they were lost due to a felony or misdemeanor (in most cases). Not all felonies or misdemeanors are eligible.

We only have the rights the crown deems we should have. Other ones like 2A are to be legislated to irrelevance.

I need some MCLE. Is the Webinar host a State Bar certified MCLE provider?

Speaking of MCLE, WHEN is the next AW class going to be held, if ever? I need MCLE dammit! and I'm tired of 1 hour lectures on the subject of effective ways to rubber stamp MCLE requirements.

My friend posted the initial message here, and let me know that there was some confusion about CA firearm rights restoration. My firm has restored 100s, if not more, of firearm rights in CA. Ironically, its far easier to restore firearm rights in CA than many other states, including Texas.

You can restore your firearm rights using two basic paths, a felony reduction or a pardon (which have been granted quite a bit the last few years).

When it comes to felony reduction, there are two ways, PC 17(b), and HS 11361.8 (this latter only relates to marijuana-related offenses). Qualifying under PC 17(b) is fairly easy if you didn't go to prison, and the offense you were convicted of was a "wobbler" offense (which there are a lot of).

If you do not qualify for a felony reduction (which is often pretty easy if you didn't go to prison), then you can seek a pardon in two different ways. First, you can obtain a Certificate of Rehabilitation, which if granted (these are granted most of the time if you know what you are doing), creates an automatic pardon application. Gov. Brown may do a lot of things that are unpopular around here, but he does grant them more often than almost any other governor (he has granted well over 1,000 already).

If you do not qualify for a Certificate of Rehabilitation, you can seek a pardon directly from the governor, but there are procedural reasons that make seeking a Certificate of Rehabilitation far more desirable.

I've been doing free webinars lately about CA firearm rights restoration, that point you in the correct direction and provide a ton of info. I have one this Sunday if anybody wants to learn more about this, just register here

This is one of my primary areas of practice, so if anybody has questions, just let me know, I'm happy to answer any questions!

Of course! That makes so much sense!!

The CA DOJ would clearly put on webinars about how to legally restore your firearm rights. The State of California would definitely do that!

Nope, that actually makes zero sense.

I have no agenda, and I'm not trying to sell anything here. I just like guns and helping people restore and protect their 2A rights.

If anyone here has had their 2A rights taken, I'm happy to answer any questions you have about whether/how you can get them back.

Knowing California, I'm sure they will close these legal avenues to restore your 2A rights at some point soon.

Facebook is the worst.

I've been doing webinars on expungements, record sealing, and a bunch of other criminal record related law for the last 6 months, and its been a pretty good experience. It helps a lot of people do it on their own, and has also helped business as well.

Most of the registrants come from FB posts, which has been a great way to make people aware of these free courses.

A lot of this overlaps with firearm rights, so I finally decided to add a California Firearm Rights webinar. FB seems to just not be having it. I guess I shouldn't be shocked they hate guns in the bay, but this seems absurd.

First, they said it was political in nature, and that I had to register to post political stuff (new thing to make them look better after Russian scandal in media). I did that.

Now they're just disapproving the posts because they hate guns.

I guess they've forgotten about the Constitution, and don't want people to know about their legal rights when it comes to guns.

I'll have to figure out another way to get the word out. Any ideas?

Thank you for the info and effort. Although I have no personal need for the material, I do like to be educated about such stuff. I will likely sign up to view it at a later time.
IMO every gun owner should have an interest and knowledge of what "The Other Side" (DOJ, LE agencies, prosecutors, legislature, etc.) are up to, and the above info is but one element of that knowledge.
Free webinars are good in that the viewer can decide if the material presented is valid for their need or not without obligation.

Makes sense. If you Google "California gun rights restoration" or a combination similar to that, Calguns.net comes up in a number of hits. The topic has been discussed on this site a number of times, so anyone deciding to do the basic research would likely end up here in this thread or a similar one.

Putting the information out there can be helpful to people, and sure it could generate some business for the attorney putting on the seminar. But, more importantly, the effort serves to inform and educate, which is never a bad thing. In fact, Chuck Michel used to have a web page explaining the ways to restore firearms rights in California, and you can find similar pages for almost every other state.

Overall, people should see this as a good thing. As for getting the word out there, I would make a short YT video and pass the link around to any pro-2A channels left there that might be willing to display a link. IGTV may be another, newer option as well.

Will your webinar cover issues obtaining eligibility documentation from DOj after 17b is approved?

Lots of cases where they get the conviction reduced and dismissed but doj still denies eligibility.

Will your webinar cover how to correct the issue?

Is this only for drug charges? How about DV charges? From what I understand if you have a DV charge, your 2A rights are gone forever.

Why not give "CAgunattorney" his chance to prove he is legitimate and is willing to help people. I know people who have stumbled through this process and had a hard time. Until this person proves me wrong I say give him his chance to help people and restore some rights if he can. if this is trolling CADOJ has nothing to gain by it and will only hardened the dislike/distrust of them by the gun sport community. nothing lost and maybe some benefit gained.

Problem is that there are many felonies that are considered "non-violent" and many crimes that are considered to be "wobblers" when they shouldn't be. I haven't looked at this nor do I have much desire to. CA is jacked and restoring firearm rights to many wobblers or "non-violent" felonies especially from Prop 57 (if those are included in this webinar) is a load of crap.

Plenty of those "wobblers" are also things that should not be a crime in the first place (including possession of an assault weapon or concealed carry). Prop 47 reductions do not include restoration of firearm rights.
