Default Places to shoot in NorCal, no ranges

I Live in between Auburn and Sacramento, and I usually go to shoot out past Foresthill in the woods. Do you guys know of any other good, free, places to go shooting around here?

This notice is a bit dated, but the map is still good. The place is near Colfax.

Thanks for the input, going up to shoot at that Colfax Public Shooting Area today. Sucks that you can't just get off of 80 and be right there.

Well, we went up there today and had a blast, much closer than the place we usually go. Although it gets kinda crowded, and there isn't much room to shoot forward. Mostly shot skeet and plinked at crap on the hill with .22's, but I got shoot my M44 a few times and my dad let me borrow his Remington 700 30.06 which he hasn't shot since the 80's. That thing shoots great. All in all it was a very fun day.

I will have to check this place out next time we're in the area. When you say not much room forward... can you hazard a guess at what the yardage is?

Probably 4/5's of the firing line goes out to 25-30 yard. The 1/5 goes out to barely 100 yards and will accommodate 2 shooters if they're friendly.

Ya, you have to go down to the very end and that was taken. Do people live back their or something, because we had a ton of cars just passing through.

Theres backcountry access down that road from what I've heard. I know when there was a big fire, CDF took the range over as a staging area to get access to the fire down that road.
