I found this thread and asked to have the paper work sent to me.
It is now on its ways.
I may have my CCW in AZ before California.

I am HR218, but I am getting my AZ CCW because it makes buying guns out here easier. No NICS check required with an AZ CCW.

Do you still need an AZ ID to buy or is the CCW good enough?

My folks live in AZ, and even though AZ is a constitution carry state, the permit bypasses the Federal GFSZ. I was hoping to use my AZ for NV, but as stated above, that is now moot.

I used my POST 832 PC training (from 20 years ago) and a copy of my Active military ID. Don't know which one they used, they had both. Permit was in my mailbox in less than 60 days.

My last time in town, I think I open carried more than I concealed - no strange looks and nobody said a word to me.

Yep, Sent them a copy of my CCW and my range card. QED. Hardest part was getting ink fingerprinted.

Got my application in the mail Saturday.
Even the mailing was fast.
Just need to find a wet finger printer and I am GTG.

Anybody try this themselves?
I can buy the ink pretty cheap.
I think I can "Roll" as good as I have seen.

Rolling ink is not as easy as you would thin it would be. I rolled prints for a living when I started my LEO career, and would sometimes roll 100 or so people a night. I would not feel comfortable rolling someone now because it's been a long time.

I got my packet the other day, and made an appointment with the local PD in AZ to have mine done. I would find a place that has some experience.

The challange now can be finding someone who still does inc fingerprinting.

I contacted my local Sheriff substation and they said they had a guy buy he was off this week. I said can I get an appointment with him next week? They said Sure if he's working next week check back then.

When I was a kid my dad was a LEO and he made all us kids practice rolling with his kit. I bought a pad and did mine myself, but your right it's not as easy as it seems. I then spent a month wondering if Az was going to send my cards back rejected for unreadable fingerprints. Turned out fine but ...

^^^ Rejected cards is what I would be worried about. I guess I am lucky that they still roll ink out in AZ. The department I worked for stopped rolling ink almost 20 years ago.

Email request -> dropped in mail -> email notification it had been sent? 4 minutes flat.

California might take note regarding "customer service"...

Wouldn't try it. Go to mailboxes etc or UPS shipping store. $20 for 2 cards. You don't want them to reject the card because its not done right.

Nobody near me did it, closest place I could find was about 25 minutes away and had limited hours that didn't work for me, so I rolled my own, I've done it before, but it was still scary spending a month not knowing if they would get rejected.

My AZ came in on the 5th week after I mailed it. I emailed the department and asked for status they responded in a couple hours that it had been mailed out.

I called the Costa Mesa PD and they do ink finger printing.
For $20 and about 15 minutes later I was out of there.

Do you already have a CA CCW before you applied for AZ?

I am picking up my CA CCW shortly but it doesn't matter to AZ.
I will be using my CA CCW training certificate when I mail my application to AZ.
But having one in CA is not a requirement.

Great, thanks Guys. I already have the Training Cert I got for my CA CCW (still waiting for that). I got the Cert about 5 weeks ago, I'll be using that for the AZ app too.

That is really fast.

It took me 6 months and 5 days to get my CA CCW.

My recollection was that you do not need a permit to carry a concealed weapon in AZ. Has that since changed?

No. The major benefit of the AZ CCW is the reciprocity with many of the other states that aren't constitutional carry.

That is why I am getting one.
I visit friends in Colorado yearly.
Driving there and back I go through several AZ permit friendly states.

This permit would allow me to legally carry a concealed firearm in the 29 listed States?
How can anything be that simple? It must be a scam.

(yes, I see it's not recognized in CA)
Arizona was the first permit I ever received and back then it required a 16 hour class and range qualification all held in AZ!! However AZ only continues to get better and the AZ DPS is great to work with and has excellent customer service!

In regards to recognition/reciprocity of the AZ CWP, this permit is currently honored in 36 states out of a potential 40 (10 states DO NOT honor ANY other permits!!). The four missing are: ME, MN, NV, WA and if you are a non-resident of AZ, you will lose the following 6 states since they DO NOT honor non-resident permits from the states that they already do honor: CO, FL, MI, NH, PA, SC for a net of 30 states, including Arizona.

The Utah CFP will add MN & WA to provide 32 states coverage. To simply maximize the number of states you can carry in, AZ+UT is the ideal combo for non-resident permits! Florida will only add FL to the above combo if you need it due their lack of non-resident permit recognition and ALL other state permits will not add anything to the AZ+UT combo other than that specific state!

AZ DPS is amazing. My application seemed to take a while so I emailed them.
They said the FBI couldn't read my prints, so they ask the FBI to do a "manual" check.
Got my permit last week.

Just requested an application via their webmail form.

This would be a good permit to maintain in case I travel despite the small few that don't honor it.

Got mine in the mail last weekend, just shy of a month after mailing off the app. A photo copy of the front of my CA LTC was all that was needed to satisfy their training requirement.

Holy crap they are lightning quick! I sent them an email just 25 minutes ago. Got an email back saying they just mailed me an application

Now I'm thinking I should just give up on Cali and move to AZ... at least I have a little family there so it's manageable.
