Default New Big 5 ad

Never been a fan of Big 5 but usually look at their ad when it comes out. The most recent one is missing pretty much all guns and ammo. Usually there is a couple of shotguns and a rifle/scope combo...nothing this time. Only ammo is 9 mm Winchester, box of 50 for $16.99 limited for 5 per customer. Is Big 5 getting out of gun sales or is this just a reflection of the current low stock on many items?

I know supplies are low but just surprised to see them removed from the sales ad....it's not like Big 5 ever has a big stock of all their sale items.

Big 5 sells Shoes and Tennis rackets. Visit a Gun store and put some money in the right pockets.

dude, have u seen the turners wed specials lately...? everything but guns/ammo, which i guess you cant really have a sale on something that is out of stock. but it would be nice to see some better sales on useful accessories.

The stores that do have guns left have no need to put them on sale at discounted prices.

I was a bit suprised at the price of the Fiocci 9mm box but then I saw it was the lead free stuff that tends to cost more anyways but still its WAY more than I've ever paid for 9mm FMJ.

i haven't been in a Big 5 recently. ammo prices are always high, including sale prices. i do occasionally pick up a box or two of ammo there, but prefer to buy at my lgs... when it's in stock.

I never seek out Big 5 but passively browse when I'm in the lot.

^^^ This.
You advertise (which costs money) and you discount (which means you get less money) when you are trying too move a product.
No need too advertise or discount a product that is flying off the shelves at full price.
A lot of people on CG are critical of Big 5 (B5). I do not understand this hostility. B5 is a chain store that sells a lot more than guns. This is capitalism, they are free too sell whatever makes them money and keeps their doors open. Many of us have bought long guns from them. I personally bought a handgun from them (Ruger Single Six) when they still sold handguns. The prices on guns are usually fair, Ammo is a little higher. I have found a few clerks/managers at B5 that were fairly knowledgeable about guns. I have also found some that knew nothing. Either way, B5 is one of our own, let's treat them decently. If you want too spend money there, great. If not, that is your right.

I went last night. Plenty of 45 ammo. Plenty of long guns.
I ended up buying 150 rds of Winchester super X 00 buck.

Compulsive buying I suppose...

I picked up my 870 clone for $199 from them and always browse like someone else said when I' am in the same parking lot. Great CS decent prices. I think there is some snobbery with people who dislike the big5. Just like people who don't like the 870 clones because they don't have Remington on em. I think some people like to make up shortages to prop up their argument we're under attack by non gun lovers personally. Like I said earlier Plenty of stock at the one by me.

Last three Big 5 ad's I've received with my weekend newspapers have no firearms of any kind (unless you count airsoft), not even the venerable Mosin-Nagant. I went to our local Big 5 and saw plenty of stock, my guess is they're a corporate owned chain store tryin to keep a low profile amidst all the nonsense and, as previously mentioned, it's not like they need to do alot of advertising right now.

I went to my local B5 in early January, I was shocked to see they no longer had any of the GSG-5, HK MP-522, HK 416 22's or the Sig 556 22 on the shelf. I asked the manager if they still carried them. He said they had them but don't display them because some of the local citizenry were making a stink that Big 5 was selling "assault weapons". But they did have them.
Not sure of inventory lately cause I haven't checked. But they don't display them still, they might actually be out of stock now.
They still have ammo though.

The problem is that the uninformed, once every couple of years shooter probably doesn't realize what's happening with supply, what they paid the last time they bought ammo and doesn't care as long as it is in a Big5 "sale" ad.

I was hoping I'd open thread up to "Dorner special, Mosin 89.99 go get em".
