Default Sig P226 carbon slide reblue by Sig Custom Shop

Well the carbon slide on my '94 W.German P226 was looking a little too worn and scratched for my taste. So I sent it off to Sig to get reblued. Just got it back and it looks like a really nice even dark matte blue. Very pleased. $115 total including shipping. 5 week turnaround.

Word of warning about rceiving items back from Sig. They sent the slide back Fedex signature release but also with a restriction that it could not be held at a fedex location for pickup. I tried getting them to lift the restriction but they refused saying it was an ATF rule. Their explanation didnt really make any sense because its not a serialized receiver or ordnance, merely a slide. And I still would have to sign for it if I was able to pick it up. Anyways, luckily I was able to get off work early to be home to receive it. Sig said if I wasnt able to receive it, it would eventually be sent back and they would have to send it to an FFL for me to get it. That sounded pretty stupid to me but whatever, I got it back and everything worked out.

Without further ado, here are some pics:

It's always good to hear about good service. We get mostly horror stories.

Nice slide, looks great.

I am having exactly the same issue with Glock so it must be an ATF rule.

They mailed me a barrel and it has the exact same restrictions as what you experienced. Unfortunately I am out of town. I left a note for the FedEx guy to have my next door neighbor sign for it but don't know if that will work.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of the slide before you sent it in, would you?

If you aren't there when they attempt delivery, it goes back to Fedex distribution center. It usually gets back to center by 5:30pm. Centers usually stay open till 7:00. You can pick it up at center... my experiences.. twice

Yeah, I dont understand why i can pick it up at the destribution center but not at another fedex location. I still have to sign for it at either. Just kinda dumb.

Why can midway or brownells ship slides to me and leave them on my doorstep? If it’s really an ATF rule that applies to parts, you would think it would apply to all parts being shipped, not just parts being shipped from a manufacturer.

Slide came out nice, btw.

Yup, barrel is original. Only sent the slide in. The barrel has a polished hood, I've read that some Sigs in the '90s came out polished like that. I have no idea if that is the case with this one. The rest of the barrel is blued.

Sig custom shop does great work. Bought a 229 with a DOA trigger. It sucked. Sent it back for a DA/SA trigger. $45 and they kept the parts. On top of that the trigger will is just super smooth.

you have yourself a triple serialized item there. If it has a serial number whether or not it is an actual firearm may be the reason they treat it as such.

Thanks! I noted the polished hood which is why I asked. I also noted the lack of a serial number (perhaps just not visible in the pick).

The barrel is serial numbered on the left side, its just not visible when assembled with the slide. Its a typical '90s triple numbered Sig.

Nice! Now I want to polish my 220r3 barrel. Is there any downside to scrubbing of the PVD coating on a modern Sig barrel? Lubrication or fitment issues?

I really have no idea. I think its mostly cosmetic because the finish wears so unevenly on the barrel hood. And it should provide even more lubrication if its polished. Only downside is the protective coating is gone so it has to be cleaned and oiled more often to prevent corrosion.

So is that actual "blueing" or some sort of Nitron or whatever?

Definitely looks nice, especially with the polished barrel hood. For $125 how far wrong could ya go?

Its definitely not Nitron. Nitron is only for the current production stainless slides. The old carbon steel "folded" or "stamped" slides are blued. I dont know what their reblue process is but it came out nice and even. And yes, for $100 plus $15 shipping, Im not complaining.

Sig did a bare minimum refinish, just enough to strip the old finish. There are some punch marks in the rear sight dovetail where a previous owner had either tried to stake the rear sight or just gouged the dovetail trying to install or remove the sight. I was hoping Sig would remove it but they didnt. Had I known, I would have done it myself since it was going to be reblued anyway.

That is a shame they didn't take a few minutes to prep the slide and cleanup the dovetails.
