Default Old Bisquick still good

Bunch of family visiting this week and of course they want waffles for breakfast every morning. I always forget how much kids can eat.

We have gone thru 3, 5lb boxes of of Bisquick since last Sunday. The oldest box was 7 years and the youngest was 4 1/2. Nobody is dead. I can't tell the difference in taste or quality.

Waffles covered in canned blueberry or apple pie filling makes for real happy grandkids.

Its a bit noisy around here for my liking but it sure is nice to have the family about me.

Making a full prime rib for the family tonight from beef we raised.

My experience with old flour & oat products has always been to **** can it. Look closely and usually you'll see grub type insects and webbing. Flour by it self is more versatile and cheaper, make your own it tastes better! Extra protein I suppose

A lot depends on storage, climate. If it worked for you, who are we to argue with your success.

It's the leaving agents that lose effectiveness over time. Specifically sodium bicarbonate and various acid reagents.

Seems like yours were fine. Probably because the ambient temperature of where it was stored never got hot or had high humidity.

Not storing any food properly will cause it to go bad or shorten its shelf life.

The missus is a real pro when it comes to storing food. Her grains, beans and rice are measured in tons.

Her cellar never gets colder the 44 degrees and warmer than 56 degrees.

Bisquick was never good to begin with. Yuck!

The ingredients in Bisquick Original consist of bleached wheat flour (enriched with niacin, iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin and folic acid), corn starch, dextrose, partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oil, leavening (baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate), canola oil, salt, ...

Where the worry lies is that oils can go rancid.

Bought it once a long time ago. Just do it all from scratch now.

Last Sunday I was getting ready to make pancakes for the wife for Mother's Day breakfast. What no Bisquik? What to do? For the first time in my many decades on this planet I made pancakes from scratch. Took about 3 minutes longer and I will never return to Bisquik. (Maybe for trailer camping where having to deal with fewer ingredients would be good)
