@famous2146 good luck. Happy Holidays.

General question -- how do I find out what unit(s) doesn't get enough / need care package?

Good luck! Too bad you won't be home for the holidays, but someone has to be out there. And I`m glad it's a good calgunner! I have several car magazine subscriptions, and a lot saved up.
If you or any service member wants them, I'll send them on over.

As well and what I did for my Marines while I was in Iraq was registered at anymarine.com.

There is also anysoldier.com and anysailor.com

You can go to anyone of those websites and get the deployed address of service members and send them care packages or their units.

I know you all are looking for calgun members, but if it falls short and you want provide support those are a couple other options.

Starbucks brand stainless steel / solid metal French press coffee maker + some coarse ground coffee was the most amazing thing EVER...

Made strong, palatable coffee - arguably the best coffee I ever had. Now, I use a jet boil with the French press attachment... Left my French press overseas with another guy (ref: bribe)

If you know any guys down range that are coffee finatics, the Starbucks stainless steel press was damn near indestructible. Granted, they'll probably only be able to boil water on post at FOB / COB / firm base.

Jet boil also makes an amazing French press attachment to their stove.

Once you have it packed go to USPS.com and register for an account if you don't have one. The advantage of the USPS account is that when shipping it will require custom's forms and declarations. Having the USPS account it will fill all that info in and print it out for you and all you have to do it just take it to the post office afterwards. No need to fill out any forms in triplicate or however many copies they require.
just wanted to say thank you for the packages. they could not have come at a better time. I appreciate everything and ill make sure to share them with some of my Marines. Dont have much time we are in the middle of work so have to go but just wanted to stop by and say thank you.

2nd brigade 10th mtn just deployed, since it's recent, I'll wait awhile and contact some buddies to see what they need in the future. If this thread is still going, I'll update with an address. Good thinking!

You can read more at USPS.com, but Porn and Bacon (pork) are two of the things that are banned. WTF, right?

They make you send to a specific person now; no more "any soldier", etc.

Glad to hear you got them. Looks like the delivery time was about a month. Hope the package cookies didn't go stale...

If you need anything else let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Be safe.

I follow both 2/15 far and 2nd brigade on Facebook. If you look 2nd brigade they show the casing of the colors.

I dont know how to post the link, but heres a copy and paste from that post.

Quote:
2nd Brigade Combat Team and 1st Brigade Combat Team held a combined deployment ceremony January 11 at Magrath Sports Complex on Fort Drum. Each brigade along with five of their battalions cased their colors for their upcoming deployment.

Damn, they both deployed? 3rd must be living it up (well as much as one can do at Drum)! Magrath is probably empty.

The starbucks coffee i kept LOL i like coffee and i had a coffee cup sent out so i drink it every morning i can. Everything else was distributed amongst the Marines and they where all very thankful. Well i just wanted to say thank you for everything and let you know know we all appreciate the packages. Gotta go now thanks for all you're support.

Look back on the first page. There's at least 3 addresses to send stuff directly to Calgunner's in service and other's have posted ideas on what to send.

I'm deployed but not for much longer so I'm good on care packages.

Here's a few tips I have:
- Ziplock anything that can break or leak. Keeps everything else in the box from getting messed up. Really wrap everything in its own thing to protect it from the other stuff also boxes can get messed up by someone else's poor packaging skills.
- We get lots of Peanut Butter and Jelly, even Nutella time to time. But almost no crackers.
- Soldiers get a fair amount of time to work out down range at a gym or something make shift (like a pole with ammo cans for weight lifting), so anything that one would need for going to the gym would be nice. Small towels, supplements, exercise mags (even a few months old), etc.
- Magazines, even a few weeks/couple months old. Sure Maxim and Stuff are good go tos for guys but those only last a few days because someone can read it front to back and back to front in a couple days. News magazines are nice and anything hobby related (firearms, craftsmanship, automotive, outdoors, etc). Also Gossip mags like US, People, etc are enjoyed too.
- If you're worried about stuff being crushed, pack stuff into a box that would give it some structural integrity like putting rigid things in the middle and sides.
- TV shows and movies. Not everyone gets AFN and what they do show is junk most of the time. New episodes of shows are generally weeks later and people who work different shifts might not catch it. Nearly everyone comes here with a laptop or tablet or knows someone with one so anything on the medium will be loved.
- Blank postcards. Sometimes people make them out of the backs of the cartons that come in MRE's or buy them at a PX if their base has one (generally 25 cents to a dollar for one, mail is free to send). But throwing a few in would be good way to get people to write a post card home.
- Ziplock bags. Those are hard to find here and they come in handy. Even a few empty plastic bags from the grocery store. Use them to compartmentalize items in the box and soldiers here will reuse them for all sorts of tasks.
- Chocolate is best to send during the cooler months like November to February. After that it gets warm and they will start to melt, even M&M's. Switch out to other kinds of non-chocolate when it's Spring to Early Fall.
- If you're gonna send hot sauce, send something other than Tobasco. We get so much of that here. People want some variety. Siracha is very popular as well as Tapatio and Cholula. The more exotic the better. I like to get Buffalo Wing sauce to eat with the chicken or turkey we get because they are pretty plain otherwise.

lol so you can ship apple juice? The local liquor store has this killer apple pie moonshine. so good and it happens to be 70 proof which is good enough to put me to sleep after a glass two.
I can smuggle cough* im mean send some stuff too. as long as it can get there to someone that needs/wants it im willing to send it. I just wanted an address that is current so i know it will be received and not lost in the mail. So if youre going to be somewhere for a while hit me with an address already

good advice
if you know someone that would like to get some stuff let me know.
If can do movies on flash media or discs for sure but If you can find out what format its need in. mp4, avi, dvd? I dont want to send movies or shows and guys not able to watch them.

I just pull the lock ring off as I unscrew the top so it come off as one piece
what kind of movies would be wanted? I was thinking comedy, westerns, drama, and some action movies.
