Default Sac\/ Placer area places for Long Range

I would like to shoot distance (over 300yds) in Placer/Sac county and am looking for any location other than Ione. Anyone know of a place to get some distance? BLM is good if you know of a place.

Just out of curiosity, is there a particular reason you don't want to shoot at Sac Valley?

Just looking for something close to me where I do not need multiple people to run a range, where I can set steel up and such.

I thought all BLM land and Forest land is closed to shooting for the fire season.
Only hunting allowed.

I can not confirm that. The Ranger gave me a map and told me where I could go shoot pistols....I am just looking for longer range.

I don't know if you would be interested or not, but we (Nor Cal Practical Precision Rifle Club) hold a bi-monthly steel match at Sac Valley's Range 6. We shoot steel from 220 to 550 yards. Usually the targets are 1-2 MOA in size. You're welcome to come and check it out or shoot with us. The next match is scheduled for September 17.

We have a forum where you can find more information and get updates on the matches: http://forum.ncpprc.com/index.php

We also have a website with more information on the club and our shooting discipline: https://ncpprc.com/

Negative. Tahoe National Forest and ElDorado National Forest are good to go. You can call the ranger station to confirm but their is no need. The issue is with BLM land only at the moment. I range out at ElDorado from 200-400 yard often. I only shoot steel.

Blame for the 82,000 acre fire.
I just would not take a chance this time of year.

Are there caliber restrictions for shooting steel at those distances?

Steel matches are labor intensive, dynamic events. They contain many responsibilities which are shared by the Range Safety Officers (RSO)/Match Directors (MD) as well as competitors. Competitors are expected to actively participate in many aspects of a steel match (e.g., Setting up targets). If you are unwilling to participate in the work required to facilitate a steel match, this is not the competitive match environment for you. Everyone will need to pitch in to help make these Steel Matches run as smooth as possible.

Equipment Requirements:

I. Bolt Action Rifle with optics in 6mm to 30cal at a speed limit of 3200FPS. No Solid Copper or Brass Bullets(ie. Flatlines, etc.)
Rifle Ammo: 85 rounds(Bring extra in case of re-shoot, etc.)

II. No pistol.

III. Hearing protection, Eye protection, and Empty Chamber Indicators (ECI) must be used at all times.

IV. Tools to run your firearms and optics.

V. Note taking gear.

VI. Some sort of pack to carry your equipment in.

VII. Elbow/knee pads and good foot wear is strongly suggested.
