Default Agree with Marketplace

Hey - I'm new here as well and agree with the sentiments about using the marketplace and there the suggestions for improvement are dead on.

If the thread for an ad is deleted under the current format, you lose the I-Trader ratings.

Second would be a Calguns Express thread. Im sure i could create this on my own, but since it involved third party transports, I imagine it would be best to get some staff blessing of the rules. Basically, have someone in Norcal selling something you want, but youre in Socal, or vice versa? Use the Calguns Express thread, make a request, see if anyone is driving in that direction and can safely transport your non-FFL gun parts back and forth for a small fee.

What do ya think?
I definitely support a Like button.

Would it be possible to modify the Marketplace and put into play a locations section?
I see some great firearms for sale but they are located in Southern California and I am in Northern California.

Something where the posts can be separated into it's own specific geographic areas. Might make it easier because if the buyer is closer then there are no shipping charges.

A "Like" button would be a great way to eliminate the need for someone to create a post just to say "Agreed!" or other nonsense. It works great on other forums like Tacomaworld.

I'd add a couple more suggestions for the Marketplace...

>>Bump by editing the original post...OP can do it once every 24 hours. That saves wading through pages showing nothing but ^^^ or TTT or Bump.

>>Questions on the thread and item go direct to the OP via his choice of PM or email and he responds accordingly.

>>Only other valid response would be an "I'll Take It", and at that point comms between he buyer and seller, again, need to be via PM or email.

Say what you want about ar15.com, but first take a look at the Equipment Exchange and see how brevity is a major virtue there compared to the status quo here.

hth, and I like it.

I hate ar15.com EE section... so many sub categories. If the website had 10000 daily users, it would be fine. otherwise why not just condense it into a couple of main categories.

I dont know if anyone else made this suggestion, but a pizza party would be nice.

I tend to focus on C&Rs for a month or so, then modern handguns, then older riot/trench shotguns, etc. So at least for me I can look at FS adds for the type of gun I'm after instead of searching through all the other possibilities. That makes arf searches a lot quicker than here. On calguns, I've got to sift through a ton of stuff of no interest to me, at least at the time. A definite first-world problem.

I've done 4 fairly recent buying recent buying transactions here. None began in the FS Forum, all were from threads about approximating the value of an older gun or asking about how to legally sell magazines. Two sellers were ex-pat Californians who moved to the Boise area, the other two were actually willing to ship a C&R to an out of state licensee from California.

Bell pepper and garlic (real, not the processed crap) followed by dry Italian salami, both New York style, would be perfect. As would an Anchor Porter or Idaho IPA to wash it down.

we need a Body Armor/Bullet Proofing forum, not just a thread.

Did you know the SF Parking Ticket Dispute window has (only) Level II (not the window itself, the sides and under the counter, don't know about the window). Probably cost a lot, and for only Level II, just because its Officially Level II.

That stuff is real weird and semi-crappy to work with. Solid, plywood flexy sheets cut with carbide, and dust makes the inbetweens of your fingers itch, but nowhere else, but washes off 100% with water, unlike fiberglass which stays for days.

I'm guessing a very common place to be shot is in your car, so thats a whole subject.

"How to bullet proof your existing house for cheap", etc

Any way we could get a function to embed Twitter posts? Often they have media that would be useful to be able to link like the youtube embed icon.

If we can't sort firearms marketplace sales by region, can we atleast require the loction be written in the thread description title?

I could be wrong, but I thought that was one of the marketplace rules.

A little wiggle room there but kinda sorta in the rules already.

3) Your location must be in each new Marketplace thread

Whether WTS (Want To Sell) or WTB (Want To Buy). If your location is not given then your post may be deleted. It is preferred that your location be visible in your profile to sell or buy in the Marketplace. If it is not in your profile it MUST be in every new thread started in these forums. Given the large size of California your location must show at least what County you are in, the City is preferable. We highly recommend that you also include the location in the title of the thread.
Good considerate members ALWAYS put a location in the title.

Too many SPAM posts littering the forums.
Perhaps a new user should have their first post or two be moderated before it is officially in the forums.

Regarding old threads that are revived.

There's a "warning" when responding to a thread past a certain age that you have to confirm before you continue. I think this is a great compromise rather than having threads time out completely.

Unfortunately, once someone bumps the thread it's no longer considered old, so there's no similar warning to people quoting old posts to respond to them. While it's fine if people pick up the conversation with the person who bumped the thread, a similar "warning" if you click the quote button on a post that's older than a certain age, regardless of when the last post in the thread was made, could help some people.

Yeah - you probably don't want to go down that rabbit hole - especially on CGN.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on the side your on), the epic narrative thread at castboolits is no longer accessible.

Or mandatory minimum CGN donation for full site access (like maybe to marketplace or specialty topics?). I don't use Calguns all that much, but it seems to me, with all the people on this site, a small bit of cash would do our cause well.

9 years after it was first suggested the site still doesn't support HTTPS? Or is the cert just expired at the moment or what?

Setting up an SSL literally takes less than 30 minutes and you could get a cheap cert for under $20. That is cheap investment for piece of mind for all the users that enter passwords on this site. Besides, Google penalizes a site's raking if it does not support a secure connection.

Not only would HTTPS be nice, but we need something to stop the incessant spam. It's getting worse with each passing week.

I second this. San Diego, Los Angeles, Bay Area, Sacramento etc. I'm sure I forgot a few places.

You don't even need to pay for an SSL cert these days... https://letsencrypt.org/
