Default So how do you tell your wife you bought a Gatling Gun?

I'm hoping the winning bidder is a CG'er and will be at a shoot soon:

My wife truly thinks that I get all my stuff for $200.

So if she asks, that all numbers matching AK kit was $200, the BCM complete upper....$200....Gatling Gun....you guessed it, $200

I'd just tell her straight up with enthusiasm. She has to accept you for who you are. She bought the package. If I know ahead of time I tell her "I'm doing this.". I take this approach and no regrets....

This was interesting: CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This Gatling gun is California legal and transfers as a handgun. This Gatling gun can only be transferred to a California resident as a private party transaction (PPT) at out shop in Simi Valley.

Of course you would need to complete the set: http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/Spec...atlingGun.aspx

That is actually something I would consider buying. The wife would probably be ok with it. She insisted I buy an M16 2 months ago when the gun ban talk started so this Gatling gun would be cheap.

She actually was eyeballing the full size version at our local gun shop but at $43,000 it is too pricey and too cumbersome to deal with.

After seeing one on Pon Stars and Top Shot she wanted one.

In that case, you might want to reconsider your gesture in the "Consortium" thread, Phil.

The problem would be more like how to make the wife leave me a little ammo.

Oh, and I would hear the dreaded comment... "Where are you going to put that?!", followed by laughter.

LOL. Seriously. I might need all 91,000 rounds to feed the toys.

That Gatling would be more of a range toy. Take it out a few times a year to let the younger shooters to learn about and the older shooters to drool over. It won't be a safe queen since it won't fit but it won't get abused either.

I have the auction marked for watching. The only problem with stuff in this price range is that I could buy full autos instead. I had my eye on a Steyr AUG trigger pack for $10k or a lightning link for the same price so it's collectible vs. utility.

Sounds like a bidding war....
That is a good price as they usually run $10-15K. There is a lot of work in both the guns and the Broadwell mags. I have been working on building my own for a few years. In a few years I may even have it done. It is a labor of love. I bought a lathe and a mill and I am learning to use them so I am not the fastest.

Best to be honest with your wife. Unless your budget lets you have that much mad money, she is going to find out. 22LR is the way to go so you can afford to shoot it. I know when I finish mine it will see the range a lot.

I'm not even going to go there - I'm having enough trouble scrounging up enough mad money to use on an Enfield, to get the WW2 collection closer to completion. No way I'm starting a "19th Century American Arms" branch.

I'm sure the current price on rimfire is having an effect on bidding as well. If things cool down, they might be able to squeeze a bit more out of a bidding war.

Post some pics of your build, why don't you?

Right now it is just a pile of parts and metal. It doesn't look much like a Gatling gun yet. My brother and I are actually building a pair together. That means making 20 of each part! We still need a few more barrels (we have 13 made from factory 10/22 barrels, we need 7 more). I am working on some of the internal parts right now. I broke a cutter Sat night and UPS should be delivering a new one tomorrow. I have been taking lots of pics and when I get it done I will post a write up about it. I am using the RG&G plans and also bought the R&D plans to get the prints for the Broadwell mag. I am making a few changes.

I am not a machinist by trade so I have been learning as I go. I have had one semester of machine shop back 25-30 years ago. I have now bought a lathe and a mill and I am getting better. I figure by the time we are done we will have about $10K into both guns and tooling. Of course, I will end up with all the tools and the guns. I hate to think of the time I have into it or the pile of scrap where I messed up making things, I sure couldn't quit my day job! Still it is a lot of fun. I know it will be the best 10/22 at the range when I am done. 10 barrel, 22LR that is.

Honey guess what? I bought you the gun that you've always wanted. Huh? no? Uh ohhhh, I thought you said you wanted it that's why I bought it. Well, I can't return it, and we'll be losing money if we sell it, so we might as well keep it as an investment while you enjoy shooting it.

Like I always do, I ask my brothers or friends to bring the firearms that I just bought to my house and pretend that I am going to keep the firearms for them because they do not have a safe.

I considered bidding on it. All I could find was a sale of one for $7300 back in 2010 so I could not make an informed decision on how much to bid. Definitely not worth $13k to me but that is just me. I would have no problem plunking down $10k on a little strip of metal if allowed me to run my ARs full auto, though.
