I'm planning to head over there from Bakersfield, as soon as I get my dang C&R. Been just under 4 months since they charged my card.

I drove to J&G today, it was beautiful. But I drove from Phoenix, not LA. No snow up there at all, it was 66 and sunny. Nice people that work there, great transaction. I would call and make sure that they have what you want in stock.

Capybara - tell us about it - anything unusual there? They sometimes have odds and ends that aren't listed in their flyers or on their website. Did you get a chance to stop at any of the other shops or pawns?

I'm planning to make a trip down there in the next month or so from the East Bay, Norcal. I need to haul a motorcycle to Prescott and I could haul some rifles back

J&G Sales They pretty much had what they show on their website in stock. Nothing else that I saw hiding or in their cases that wasn't on their website as far as C&Rs. The had the Mosin revolvers, the CZ82s like I bought, the P38s (all three grades), they had some Yugo Toks and Romanian Toks. As far as long guns, they had 91/30s (round receivers only), T-53s (the one on display is beat to snot, they said that they are all that way), Mauser 24/47. No more SKSs. The reason I say to call is that their parking lot was full, I had to wait for a parking place. I spoke with three Calfornians that were in there doing what I was doing, buying C&Rs. Plus, the Phoenix gun show was yesterday, they aren't even sure of what is coming back from the gun show. Super cool salesman there, two of them helped me and both were cool as hell, brought out five or six boxes for me to compare finishes and bores. I will definitely be back, great place to buy from. It is a such a rush to just walk in, pick out a mess of guns, they take a copy of your license to compare to your C&R that you mailed ahead of time (DO this!) and then walk out with your guns, talk about freedom. This is the way California used to be long ago. Bucky O'Neils Nice little shop. Spoke with the manager but he had a lot of customers, another customer was jumping in to help him answer questions as two of their salespeople went home sick today. They had a lot of C&R revolvers but it was hard to tell which were which because they were mixed in with some non-C&Rs. Quite a few S&Ws in the $600.00-$1,800.00 range, not sure if they were all C&R. Also, lots of California no-nos, folding stock SKS with 30 round magazines, Cobray MAC clones, oh yeah, and a couple of RPGs and a few recoil-less rifles, mortars, man I love Arizona. Overall, good prices on new guns, pretty decent selection but not that many C&Rs although they did have a rack of black powders with some crazy looking 16th century guns that look as if they were taken up from the floor of the ocean. Very eclectic mix, worth stopping in just to browse. Batterman's Auctions Stopped in here on the recommendations of some Calgunners. Lots of shotguns, an old FAL, some very nice matched set S&W pistols in the case. Quite a few old Colt .22 C&Rs but in the $700.00-$1,500.00 range. A few blackpowders, muskets, flintlocks, plus they had some crazy spears, Native American and African bows and arrows, etc. They also had quite a few airguns, which was unusual. Owner told me that he sold almost everything at the Phoenix gun show, he was on the phone with distributors trying to order a lot more guns. I would say all together, there were about 80 guns there, worth checking in, some funky old stuff, just no SKSs, Garands, etc. Prescott Valley Guns (I think this was the name, it's off of Highway 69 in Prescott Valley?) Nice store, big selection, the entire center of the store is rack upon rack of long guns, plus about 10 cases of handguns. As far as C&Rs, I was tempted, they had a Russian SKS for $369.00. But it had been Bubba'd up pretty weirdly, upper handguard was missing, bayonet and all metal looked as if it had been rattle canned or a bad parkerizing job. Stock was nice, both was good, internals were good, but too Bubba'd for me. They had a Norinco next to it for $279.00, nothing spectacular, nice metal, crappy wood, I don't think this was a C&R though, it looked more like 80s-90s? No bayonet with bayonet lug ground off? They had two 91/30s, one had a totally sanded down stock, counterbored - $122.00, the other looked better, had original shellac, not too bad, but when I looked at the receiver, it had been TOTALLY scrubbed of all marks, no year, armory, anything, it was weird, I have never seen a "naked" Mosin receiver. Also around $125.00. A 1916 Mausers, a few older muskets, not a ton of C&R. I'd say maybe a dozen C&Rs total. I looked in their handgun cases and they had some nice, higher end C&R pistols but way too rich for me so I didn't really take note of them, nothing unusual or weird, just a couple of 1911s for $2,500.00, a few old pocket pistols, .25 caliber little guns, etc. Nothing too great but shop overall if pretty cool, worth a visit. Pawn Shop (did not notate the name of the shop, but it was in Prescott Valley about two blocks up the frontage road from DelTaco?) Little hole in the wall place. They had perhaps thirty or forty long guns and a couple of cases of handguns. Of interest to us, they had two SKS, one was a nice condition Yugo 59/66 but it had the grenade launcher so no good to us. They also had a nice condition triangle 26 Chinese SKS, but it was a mixmaster, lot of EP'd parts with no matching. Good shape though and it was only $279.00 and I think they would deal too. I started asking details though and the clerk's eye's glazed over. I asked, "is this a C&R?" He said I should talk to the owner. Is the owner here? No, he only comes in 3-4 times a year but it just so happens he'll be here tomorrow. Unfortunately, I don't have time to drive back out to Prescott on this trip. That was about it for Prescott, all I had time for on this trip. Last edited by Capybara; 12-03-2012 at 8:20 PM.. |

As I was driving away from J&G, I was thinking, "if I lived up here, I would be seriously broke."

Prescott is a great little town. The Mrs. and I have talked about retiring there.
