I don’t know where 94596 is without doing a separate search, BUT I do know where Walnut Creek is located. I vote split it only because some idgits can’t follow the rules before starting a post.

Id say keep it as it is. The distance im willing to travel entirely depends on how much I want the item and how good the deal is. I dont want to miss out on something just because its outside of my direct area, and having to go look through multiple sections would just add an unnecessary step. Also have to consider the issue of shipping, as many items can be shipped and you'd be limiting exposure to those items as well.

I like the idea of a distance filter that can either be used or turned off. Otherwise, leave it alone.

Who searches by zip codes? That’s ridiculous....do you then have to Google for all the nearby city zip codes?
 A North vs. South split creates a fake demarcation line that means nothing to those within 1-1.5 hrs. on either side, who then have to list (sellers) or search (buyers) in two forums anyway. Leave it as is.....if lazy people can’t sell/buy appropriately that’s their own issue. .

Given that the majority of handguns for sale are off roster and need to be done face to face it would make sense to split handguns. Another idea I’ve always wanted would be to split handguns on and off roster. Long guns can be shipped

In a state this big, you'd need far more "zones" than just NorCal and SoCal. I live in LA country, but not much interested in driving down to San Diego, so what's the diff? Man, "Biden" is killing it!

I voted "Split", because from my house to something like Humboldt County is just too far for everyday shopping. But there are two problems with this idea: Wherever we do the split, there will be people near the border. For example, with the normal north/south split, the folks in SLO or Fresno will probably have to look both places.
And the distance that I'm willing to drive depends a lot on what I'm looking for. A 50-round box of 9mm? Sure, I'll go an extra 10 minutes for a good deal. For a Glock 19, I might drive to LA or Santa Monica, but not to Santa Barbara or San Diego. On the other hand, for a Caspian 2011 or Mateba Grifone, I would drive to Humboldt, even if that means at least one overnight stay (twice for a PPT). Is there any way we could do a distance-based thing? Teach the forum that every for-sale post has to have a location (at least a zip code), and automatically display the distance, and be able to filter on it?

I prefer to see the entire state. Back when I was selling a ton of guns on here (2007-ish) at least 2 members flew me down to SoCal to buy things from me they couldn't find locally and picked me up at the airport and took me to DROS it...
