http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/...ld-bdc-reticle

Same scope my dad has.. and it's pretty good quality for the price.

Also, quick comment on the Falcon Menace. I suggested this to a good friend of mine. He's careful with his guns, but 2nd trip to the range, entire windage turret fell or broke off. Never seen that happen before. We had just finished dialing his 308 SASS rifle in. Seems there's not much holding that entire turret on. Was shocked at the way it fell apart.

Vortex has some decent stuff for the money.. Too bad you didn't have a thousand to play with. Could step you up into some top of the line US Optics fixed power, that are amazing scopes.

EDIT : Also, if you can spare another 100 bucks, the SWFA Super Sniper scopes are incredible. This one would get the job done and is a GREAT optic for the price.
http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-3-15x42-Tact...pe-P62238.aspx

I own their 5-20x50 SS optic HERE, and can't believe the quality of the glass, the turrets, everything about the scope is awesome for the price. But all the reviews I've seen on SWFA have been above par. If you can swing $700 for the scope, you can't go wrong. Might want to look at some reviews, or look at youtube for some SWFA videos. Top quality optics, awesome features. clear glass. Check em out before you drop a ton of cash.

I use precision step blocks to square the scope to the rail.
Feeler gauges would also work.

(I will be purchasing a Savage 10 .308 in the future.)
I am a very much a "best bang for the buck" kinda guy, so I've been looking at:
Nightforce, Leupold, Vortex, and also the above listed Falcon. I am prepared to pay upwards of $1500 but so far I think the best BFTB is the Vortex Viper PST 4-16 x50 for around the $800-900 range it seems to have all I want and need.
Your thoughts??
Thanks
Rick

I have the same quest for my Rem 700 in 308 and I think I've settled on this scope:

http://swfa.com/Vortex-6-24x50-Viper...pe-P67736.aspx

I don't think mil or MOA will make a difference, I'll get used to either but MOA seems easier to do math on for me right now. That EBR-2C reticle looks really interesting too, although I'm not sure how much benefit it will provide for bench shooting. It seems like something that would be nicer to have than to not have.

Any thoughts? is there any reason to get this scope for a grand over some of the options listed for 600 above? I don't really have a budget but $1,000 is a nice round number.

Under $1500, I think the best scope going right now is the Bushnell ET35215G.
I actually prefer the DMR to the ERS as the DMR has only 5 mils of elevation per turn while the ERS has 10 mils.
Everything THINKS that more elevation in a turn is better, but the issue is that the click spacing is so much nicer when you only have 5 mils in a turn.
The few times in your life when having 10 mils of elevation in a turn will actually BE helpful are easily eclipsed by the thousands of times that having bigger spacing between each click will be more useful to you.

Under $1000, I would be looking at Vortex PST's.

Well, I tried picking up a Vortex PST with their new reticle but after completing the purchase... 2 days later... I discovered it was backordered (not even coming out till late spring) so I found the bushnell ET35215G for $1246 at overstock. I'm now impatiently tapping my toe waiting for it.

How's everyone liking their scopes so far? How do they compare with others, if you got a chance to compare at the clinic?

Talking Beginner's long distance scope...

Here's some options to consider for your .308 WIN Remington bolt action:

SWFA Super Sniper 10x42:

http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10x42-Tactic...cope-P499.aspx

http://www.snipercentral.com/swfa-ss...l-rifle-scope/

Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40:

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/129...-reticle-matte

http://www.snipercentral.com/bushnel...-tactical-10x/

I was first taught about long distance shooting in my Marine reconnaissance unit. At that time, all we had was a 10X fixed scopes for both our M40 and M82 sniper rifles. We were taught to engage targets out to 1000 YD. What I liked about fixed power optics, especially for a beginner, was that the math was easier when ranging a target (elevation/windage/hold over, ETC), provided a wider field of view (great for people with glasses), and there were less moving parts (which makes fixed power optics more durable). I have stuck to fixed power scopes (4X, 6X, & 10X) in all of the other long distance rifle shooting I have done since then. But, that's just my personal preference.

Here's some additional reading for you:

Cheers! --1911ShooterPhil

Very timely reply.
The post you quoted is about 1.5 years old.
