Now I run 25X scopes on my long range rifles...heck...even on my hunting rifles I use 2.5-16X scopes. I stay at 4X untill I need to take a long shot and have time...I dial up the mag to see better.

Here is a prime example of having the ability to go to a higher mag. Without it I would never have been able to hit this yote. At 4X all I could see was tree limbs, fence post, etc.
When I went to 16X I was abale to thread the needle through all that and make the shot.
The coyote was 150+ yrds away from my shooting postion in this video.

Take care,Stan
Not to threadjack, but I have a question about coyote hunting. Do you find it difficult to do? The reason I ask, is that I am such a dog person. It seems too close to home if you know what I mean. I have shot elk and deer, but no small animals. I guess I am such a big wuss.

I lost a cat to coyotes, and I guess I would have to dig deep and get those emotions to pull the trigger. As I understand it, coyotes are all year shooting right? Considered a pest?

Looks like that one went down but got up and took off again, and ran a little before he finally piled up.

I'm not a hunter its just not my bag. However i did get my hunting Lic just to shoot coyotes. I hate those damn things i lost so many cats growing up its a personal thing. So when I hunt I do it for Mr Snuggles, Boots, Beepers, Mork & Mindy, Freeway, and Sylvester.

Yeah, I am not much of a hunter. It's weird though. I think I would be able to shoot a person easier than an animal. I mean animals do what they do because that is what they are. People make choices to do you harm. I would regret having to defend myself say against a wild dog, pig, or cougar. Not sure I would feel the same about an armed robber, rapist or child molester. But since I have not been in any one of those situations (Thank God) this is all speculation.

My RRA LAR-15 A4 24" SS HB w/ Burris XTR 312 scope / Talbot QD mounting system/ Badger Stabilizer / Jewell Trigger :

15 shots @ 100 yds. w/ 77gr. SMK's @ 2990 fps.(some of those holes were entered MORE than once):

Sorry about the flash glare, but that's a dime on top & a nickel below the group. Anyway, I'm pretty pleased with the rifle's accuracy. If I could only shoot as good as the rifle does, that group would be..............insane.

Some 5 shot 100 yd. groups off of a bi-pod that I got over the weekend using SSA 6.8 115 grn. match ammo. The rifle is a 20" 6.8 AR that I put together a few years ago from mostly M1S parts.

Best group of the day!

Actually the last target in the fist photo is your best shooting. The left to right string is the wind. else they would have all been dead on.

Thanks Lazuris, but that was actually a 7 shot group. I had 7 rounds left in my range bag and decided to burn them up on the last target. If it weren't for those flyers at 11 and 2 o'clock, that would of been a pretty nice group. I guess I could always photoshop the target and erase those flyers!

My best 5 shot group at 100yds from this past weekend at Angeles. From my DPMS/POF 24" .308 AR on a bipod/monopod. 42g Varget, SMK 175, CCI BR-2 primers in 1x fired CBC brass. COL 2.800. These were single shot loaded.

Chrono results were 2640 fps average, ES of 28.94, SD of 8.48.

.533 MOA

I still have yet to experiment with seating depth. I have a Hornady (Stoney Point) OAL gauge and comparator on order so we'll see what that does for next time. Still looking for less than .5 MOA.

Yep, it's a plain-jane 10FP w/ 20" barrel. Got it for $500 NIB at IA in 2007.

Very nice, ko1, did you use a monopod in the rear? or a bean bag?
my setup is like yours but diff optics and the stag upper.

i need to get a bean/sand bag to stablize my stock as i dont want to pay 100$ for a stinkin monopod...

Back to Angeles today with some reworked loads. I bought a Hornady bullet comparator and OAL length gauge that allowed me to seat my 175 SMK loads at various distances off the lands. It turned out that my standard length load at 2.205 OAL (2.800 COL) was a huge .085" from the lands. I tried seating .020, .015, .010 and .005 from the lands. Best group of the day was .005 from the lands and yielded .487 MOA at 100 yds with no signs of excess pressure. For further improvement I'll probably have to get the rifle off the bipod onto a solid rest and bag.

Chrono results for this were 2608 FPS average with 33.11 ES and 10.8 SD. This was with 42g Varget and CCI BR-2 primers in CBC brass.

Hopefully the group of guys with big gold chains that were next to and upwind of me today continuously talking and laughing loudly while chain smoking won't be there next time. Even with double hearing protection on they were still making me crazy!

alright so i took another friend to shoot this past friday, his first time shooting rifles.
allergy season is still in effect so we both were still sniffling and have irritated eyes.

Obviously my stag varminter can still shoot better.
Here I shot 3 shots in a row right under each other under center, my mistake of adjusting the shot lower instead higher haha.
ammo was 75 gr match PPU at 100 yrds with winds again 4-10 mph estimated.

theres also his shots peppered around the target. The top right 3 were mine as I was testing out some of my reloads. overall its was soso.

Took my retro AR out over the weekend. Here are some 15-20 shot 100 yard groups off of a sandbag using Fiocchi 55 gr. FMJ and Wolf 55 gr. FMJ. Nothing even close to MOA, but it sure was fun!!!

Did manage to get minute of soda can accuracy with the Fiocchi stuff!

Some 100 yard 10 shot groups off of sandbags with my old M1A using AU & RG surplus ammo as well as some PPU "white box" ammo.

Best group of the day turned in with some surplus AU F4 ammo made in 1990.

LaRue Stealth 16" mated with Noveske lower. Aimpoint CompM3 used after sightin' in the Stealth's Troy flip-up iron sights. Bench rest with sand bag.

PMC .223 55gr FMJ-BT at 50yds. Thought I had it sighted in ok.

Shot some "go to" Black Hills 5.56 77gr Match HP-Moly at 50 yds to compare.

Moved on to 100yds. Here's the PMC. A second 10 shot group was similar.

then shot a group of the "go to" at 100yds. Somehow, I convinced myself the "go to" was more "centered":

moved up to 200yds. Here's first group of PMC. The second group was also similar:

then the Black Hills:

This mall ninja internet warrior learned a lesson. Zero better at 50 yds.

Man you guys are all great shots!

My SunDevil AR with a 16" barrel is the first rifle I've ever owned. I've only ever shot a buddy's M1 Garand once before that. I'm using an ACOG TA11F on mine but am all over the place at 100 yards. (Shooting WWB from good ole WalMart, shooting off bipod). Additionally I think I new need prescription glasses so I'm sure that doesn't help...

Sigh...need to get back out and practice, practice, practice...

Yesterdays results. 100 yds.
Rem 700 .308 handloads, third time out with this gun.
5-shot groups
Each of the 11 groups has a different charge-searching for an accrit load.
None over .80", smallest just under .40"
this gun will be accrit once i learn to shoot better....

Next....slow down. Take every shot as if it is the ONLY shot. Do not pay attention to where on the target the bullets are hitting...in other words do not try and correct for a high hit or low hit...just shot for a group by aiming at the exact same place each time.

After that...maybe look at some trigger work...a heavy trigger is a small group killer.

And last....shoot LOTS...the more you shoot...the better you will get.

Take care,Stan
Thanks for all the info guys! I'll give all your suggestions a try. I've actually got a JP trigger in it, so I'm sure it's operator error

Lastly, I'd really like to upgrade to something with a little more magnification from the TA11F (3.5x). My eyes are bad and I have a hard time shooting out to 100 yards (on that particular target).
