sounds like your firewall is the issue...

if your at home then you need to log into your router/ firewall and check your settings

if your at work then your company is the one blocking it not time warner.

Rather than going to www.calguns.net, try 216.218.212.241 instead. Many of the site blockers use the site name rather than an IP address.

You can also try to change the DNS server to Google 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4
If that doesn't work you can use a VPN (virtual Private network)

I had to use VPN when overseas and the foreign country blocked entry into Many US sites.

Being a Hotel, they contract out internet to another service provider (and that private company can block anything they want for any reason they want). DNS change probably won't work, but VPN should get you around their block.

I don't think so... you are being filtered somewhere else. We use TWC as backup lines at work and they don't block anything. I also use it at home and there is no filtering that I can tell.

Yep, also use it at home and no blocking. But again if you are in a hotel, you are subject to their rules regarding use of their services. Read the fine print carefully before you select agree to their internet.

Hotels (and hospitals, and most other places for that matter) use captive portals for access control and billing. Why they choose to also filter I don't know but its their lines so they can do what they want.

427TriPowered, I recognize that error page because I work for the company that generates them, OpenDNS. There's a very good chance that you're being blocked because someone was using our service and you got their IP address when your router renewed its address. You can message me and I'll take a look.

Jeff

See if you can hit this DNS and tunnel using this site to get to calguns from its server

https://www.megaproxy.com/freesurf/
http://www.hidemyass.com/
http://anonymouse.org/anonwww.html

Or you can try to surf using proxy or use a tore network with a plugin for firefox.

http://freedailyproxy.com/?p=5

Or buy a IronKey USB with private Tore network.

OP: A simple VPN with full tunnel enabled will allow you to surf/bypass content filtering and maintain your privacy from Hotel logging. Blocked sites typically show up on the logs should they choose to monitor them, that’s how I have my UTM device setup in the office. Lots of logging and content inspection… not too much blocking.

Chances are they are also blocking proxy websites… If the admins aren’t getting saucy you could always try and proxy out a different port…

ok folks... went to the spy store and swept the room for listening and other devices... all seems to be good... better safe than sorry i went to the dope store and got some 3mil milar and wrapped the room... that will show them... now they cant hack into my laptop or cell phone although they are out there... i know they are out there...

so... now the blocked sites are unblocked...

as i was going to the room last night i stopped at the front desk and simply asked if the internet was working... the lady said it was... i asked what the issue was and she said the owner was behind on the bill so the internet provider shut down porn sites and gun sites hoping to get complaints from the guests that would force them to pay the bill...

it worked... she said the connectors who stay here mon - fri said they would not be back if the internet didnt get fixed...

I've never heard of our service being used that way. Would you be willing to send me your public IP address and a list of the DNS servers your computer uses?

If you are at work behind a sonicwall I am gonna reach through the computer screen and flick your ear for this...

Sonicwall is notorious for blocking things at the drop of a hat. It blocks GOOD thigns AND bad things.

+1 for Tor, it can get you around all sorts of blocks and prevent any sort of tracking.
