Been lurking around admiring everyone's AR-15's for a while. Figure I'd bite! My contribution, and current project:

The use of this rifle is mainly Home Defense, Plinking, and SHTF (hopefully never comes)

Stag Model 8 Piston AR-15:
-Hogue MonoGrip
-Magpul CTR Buttstock
-MAGPUL 10/30 PMAG (6) with Ranger plates and UBBT (Ultimate bullet button tool)
-MAGPUL RVG
-MAGPUL Carbine Length MOE Handguard
-DPMS Levang Muzzle Brake (Doesn't control recoil as much as the bigger names, but amazing at directing the sound of the muzzle blast forward, which is what I'd want in home defense)

The gun comes with Diamondhead Diamond shaped flip-ups which are AMAZING

1200 rounds through, flawless, no signs of carrier tilt

How do you like that Levang brake? I've always wanted to try one of those but didn't want to drop $40 bucks on something I didn't like. I wish someone around here would get one so I could try it.

I just installed it today. Bought it off of Midway USA for $37.63 shipped (with crush washer as the brake doesn't come with one). Bought it like 9pm Friday and got it at noon today.

After my 160 rounds today I would have to say I am very impressed. For a sub-$40 brake it exceeded my expectations TBH. Less muzzle climb than the A2, but doesn't eliminate climb. So it isn't ideal for a 3-gun setup or a race setup. It doesn't hide the flash as well as the A2...but better than some of the other brakes out there.

As for how well it directs the sound/concussion of the rifle; it does the job well. You can tell the gun is louder overall, and sounds different. BUT, I literally felt no concussion and the sound was alot quieter for the shooter than the A2.

I looked at this and the Troy Claymore and saw a few videos between the two, they both do the same job...the DPMS seemed to hide the flash a little more. The Troy seemed to control muzzle climb ever so slightly more. (in the videos I saw)

TL;DR version:

Worth the money. PITA to tighten without messing it up as there is no place to wrench on (I covered it with a leather glove and used a channel-lock wrench and was fine). The Troy Claymore does allow you to wrench on it. Amazing at directing the blast forward, so you won't blast anyone at your 3 or 9 o'clock at the range. Muzzle climb was less. There are no ports, so it can get quite hot with rapid firing. I would feel comfortable using this in a home defense situation without worrying about blowing out my eardrums.

I've been looking at this and the Miculek brake quite a bit. Right now I'm running a thread protector and want to change that.

I think what it boils down to is what your goal is with the rifle and the brake application. Without a doubt the Miculek brake will help control recoil better. My goal with mine is primarily HD and plinking. So a sub-50m range. At that range, I can double tap quite easily with both rounds center mass with decent grouping. I wanted to direct the majority of the sound forward, not to my sides where it will be amplified by walls, etc. The slight help with recoil/muzzle rise was just a bonus to me.

The hydrographic job was done by Shark Bite Custom and was done with a water transfer process in Desert Digital.

xoutkastx, what are the specs on that. Scope, trigger, barrel, etc. Nice looking gun for 3 gun or any kind of run and gun shooting. I had a JP-15 that would shoot dimes at 100 yards so and was an absolutely amazing rifle. Its the one gun I wish I hadn't sold.

Thanks, as already mentioned, it is an EMAG. The EMAG fits better in this preban's mag well than normal PMAG's.
