Default 300WSM vs 300 SAUM

Anyone here ever ran these two rounds? I'm building a hunting rifle and I've narrowed my choices down to these two cartridges. (Mainly because that the reamers Randall has) From my research it seems that you can push the bullet a little faster from the WSM, but the SAUM is supposed to feed better.

If you've loaded one or both of these, what kind of speeds were you getting with what bullet? I've been looking at running the 178 ELD-X and if I can get it up to 2900-3000 FPS I should have a very capable round for putting down elk sized game at some distance.

Default 300WSM vs 300 SAUM

Go with the 300 WSM. The SAUM loads are so hard to get and very expensive. Iíve run the 300 WSM and love it! Itís easy to reload and ballistics are awesome for such a short round. I run it in a Kimber Montana and recoil is such that you can shoot it from a bench all day and not get beat up.
Iíve loaded so many rounds in the past that itís been a while. I do know that I was using 180 acubond bullets and getting right at 3k FPS. A friend took it on an elk hunt and dropped a trophy bull in its tracks at 350 yards.

Why not get the caliber you want, what ever that is? A gunsmith can rent a reamer for a small fee.

It was more of a joke than anything. I really thought about getting a 6.5PRC, but for larger game I think the 30 cal is going to be a bit better.

Thanks Biigg. If you wouldnít mind looking at some of your old load info and sharing that be awesome. I do like that the WSM does seem a little more available too.

Are you limited to a short action cartridge?
If so does your bolt already have a magnum bolt face?
Is your gunsmith going to open up the rails to feed the fatter short action cartridge?

I had a short action stock already with a Magpul DBM. I didnít want a long action or belted magnum either.

I just ordered a 700 SA with the magnum bolt face. In the conversations Iíve had with Randall (who will be the smith) he didnít mention having the rails opened. Probably because Iíll be using a AICS mag for the WSM.

I found a used T3 in 300WSM and thought ďman this thing is too lightĒ. Iím building a medium weight rifle with a muzzle brake on it too. It shouldnít be too bad.

I used 64-66 grains in my 300 WSM with 187 grain BIB bullets in 2010 to win a national title.
Use Norma brass and CCI BR-2 primers with H4350 or IMR4350 and with a decent barrel it will shoot lights out.
