Default Santa Margarita Practical Rifle Clinic

A few pics from Saturday's Practical Precision Rifle clinic at Camp Pendleton. Over 40 people attended, about a dozen of them Marines with their M40A6's. Finally after over a year, Santa Margarita Gun Club was finally able to put on an event. The instructors were all highly accomplished PRS competitors and set up a pretty challenging training event. Targets ranged from over 200yds through 1100 yds.

Feedback from different people ran the spectrum from really good, to way over their head. The club will be contacting attendees to get feedback and ways to improve. In a short after-action meeting we considered adding a "short-course" to allow carbine shooters an opportunity to compete. A few people came with M4's and Mk12's and were really having a tough time.

Another match is tentatively scheduled for the second week-end of January and February. The next clinic is probably in 3 months or so.

I atteneded this, largely at Smoothy’s urging.

Great way to spend a day, learned a lot and challenged myself.

I posted a thread under competitions giving my thoughts as a newbie in this area.

they are doing one on Jan 19th and should be doing one every month there after,

After nearly 1.5 years without a SMGC sanctioned match I hesitate to say things are close to being back on track, But I'm standing close enough to the end of the tunnel to tell it's no longer looking like the front of a train. SMGC should have licensing signed by mid Jan and moving forward from there. Thats all I'm willing to disclose at this time. Things are looking very good for the club. There was a quantity of work so daunting and inevitably challenging that we will never know the full story of what it actually took to get the club back on track. I've had some very heart felt conversations with the people responsible for the clubs current state of affairs and all i can say is passionate and diligent is an understatement. There was tireless and thankless sacrifices being made. needless to say I'll be shooting three matches in Jan.
