Default Anti-bear trap?

My new rifle has an anti-bear trap. What is it and why should I care?

I think it's there as a safety, to prevent the barrel from coming back and chopping off fingers or a thumb when loading a pellet if the trigger is depressed while the barrel is in the down position, I've heard not to trust them.

Spring piston powered air rifles have been known to sever fingers when they inadvertently 'fire' while the user is loading the pellet into the chamber. The anti-bear trap is a built in safety to prevent this.

Just like a firearm the real safety is between your ears.

I always keep the hand that cocked it on the muzzle and rifle in between my chest and shoulder while loading. I like my fingers

Get in the habit of holding the barrel in the cocked position with one hand while loading a pellet with the other hand.

It's a dodge by anti gunners to disarm bears.

X2 on keeping that barrel in-hand and the stock in your armpit. It's like a trigger safety -- it's there. But never ever trust it.

Load the pellet before you cock it.

I got bit my my HW35 along time ago it resulted in a chunk took out of the web of my right hand like someone grabbed it with a set of Kleins and ripped.

This was not the guns fault! I had a stray cat I was trying to shoot in our garage, the cat tried to make and end run around me and into the house and I tried to bludgeon it with the butt of the gun after I cocked it. I missed the cat and the butt hit the ground and the gun went off taking a big chunk of hide with it.

I had to have Surgery and a Skin Graft to fix it. I was a dumbass!

I had a FWB300 Target Rifle that had a far superior anti bear trap function. It had a ratcheting cocking handle that would latch anywhere during the cocking stroke. Fine piece of machinery wich I ahd it back..

Ouch!! What did the piece of flesh look like in between the barrel and breech block? Was it smashed paper thin? I'm guessing you didn't get back to the gun till way after the hospital run
