Default T-mobile and Verizon have tethering included, what about others?

It seems AT&T subscribers have no included tethering capability, with the subscribers I have talked to. They want to charge an additional fee for the data they already pay for.

What about tethering on non-VZW, and non-T-mobile devices these days?

Boost, Virgin, Sprint, VZW Pre-pay, T-Mobile Pre-pay, Cricket, Metro, Straight Talk?

AT&T, Sprint, and Virgin data speeds was REALLY terrible when I was trying them all(, or others I knew with them, but the only place I had terrible data with T-Mobile was in Temecula Valley, around lunch). Apparently the T-Mo ONE plans cap tether at .5mbps with this new plan I am not jumping on any time soon.

Not looking to switch, but curious on if it has gotten better over the years, and if anyone is tethering with pre-paid, and the data-speed results.

If you have an android, use the paid version of PDANet+ with FoxFi. Connecting via bluetooth is undetectable.

My work uses Sprint and has tethering (hot spot) capability with unlimited data. Works well enough for transferring files and web surfing. I probably wouldn't use it for gaming.

Wow, I haven't had to do that since my OG Droid 1/2, but I have been on T-Mobile (tether included) since I left VZW with a Droid 2. I didn't know that this application was still even used by people. Interesting option for my work rig, as they are pinko-commie locking me down.

T-Mobile also gives you unlimited data overseas, which is a huge win.

It's not all its cracked up to be. It's 2G at best, and that's in the fine print. Might as well have been a 56K modem for all the good it did me.

IT Gestapo use it as well but for diff reasons. Just be careful, data loss protection is a hot topic right now, those with hotspots at work are typically the first people i go to when security matters arise.

I used it all over Europe and it was entirely usable. Didn't try to stream video over it. They throttle the speed, but since the ping is still low, it works just fine for ordinary web browsing/app use/tethering/voip calls.
