Default 1 in 30 exemption for C&R FFL and COE holders at Turners?

Just got my C&R FFL in the mail today and want to put it to use. I currently have a pistol on layaway at the Fountain Valley Turners (Ruger SR22). I'm still within the 30 days from my last DROS.

Now that I have both my 03FFL and COE, I would like to start the DROS on the pistol I have on layaway.

Has anyone had any problems with Turners when trying to get the 1 in 30 exemption on handguns with a C&R FFL and COE?

Last time I asked one of the sales guys, he knew nothing about it.

You are not exempt from the 30 days because you have your C&R especially with guns that are not C&R.
Trust me.

Turners doesn't honor it. I even showed them the PC.

That would be because your wrong. Feel free to pick up the phone and talk to the CA DOJ about their definition of a C&R "handgun". If it worked the way you want it to then every Tom Dick and Harry would goout and get a C&R. Sorry guys, its not going to happen. Even if you find a dealer that would do it, they would be wrong.

just because CADOJ claims that the C&R+COE exemption does not apply to modern handguns, the actual PC does not support that position. It does not limit the exemption to just C&R handguns.

And not every T,D, or H would go out to get the combo because it would cost them ~$130 for the first year and $22 every year after that.

And many of us have used the C&R+COE successfully to buy more than one modern handgun in a 30-day period, even at places like Bass Pro.

that said, I have talked with Bill at Turner's about this before, at that time he said that they were in conversation with their lawyer and CADOJ about it, and they weren't ready to allow the exemption.

YES you are now exempt from the 1 in 30 even for modern guns.
YES the law is on your side.
NO not all stores know that and they can and do make their own rules.

did you try to speak with Jim (store manager)?

there's been lots of new people hired and many of them are still getting up to speed. they are even blocked access to calguns site from stores' computers...

I've used the 1 in 30 exemption in the past (Nov, 2010) using the C&R + COE on a modern handgun. In fact, I have my copy of the DROS done at Turner's sitting right here in front of me.

But if this is a new policy, then that's their problem. Yet another reason to take my business elsewhere.

They have lots of policies that are stricter than the laws.
