Default Is it possible to tell if this is a repro or original

This is supposed to be a picture of a Confederate soldier holding an 1863 Springfield. It doesn't look authentic to me, as the rifle band and end cap in the picture look wrong in color. Also, the pottery on the ground looks pretty new.

Any way of telling if this is real?

Too fat to be and old photo

Resolution looks too high even from my phone

Have you ever seen a young soldier in the civil war who was fat?

Everything he's wearing it looks to clean and new.
The canteen its strap, the belt, white pants, even the hat should all look a little bit more used like the sling/strap of the rifle.

Also the middle button on his jacket is unbuttoned (the buttons not missing you can see it there) to be more comfortable (or to look like It's an old photo) when back then taking a photo was a big deal and you would try and at least button your shirt and coat even if you couldn't get your clothes brand-new looking.

It's fake. The glazed pottery being used for decorative plants and the concrete garden edging, give it away.

Just joking on that. However, he does look a little too clean-cut (nicely trimmed beard) for a confederate war soldier out in the field.

Read the books of the period, Soldiers were always hungry. The supply system was terrible, particularly for the South. Towards the end of the war Confederates were bare foot and looked like scarecrows. That is, thin and ragged.

It is a modern guy having fun. If he survived some of those 20 mile marches blue bellies and Johnny Rebs when through, he would be a lot thinner.

Also looks like a polyester shirt under the jacket.

Are you sure that isn't the guy, "Oleg", from the TV series, "2 Broke Girls"?

His real name is, "Jonathon Kite".

It is definitely real. A real picture of a guy who alternates between backyard Civil War reenacting and his Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band.

If confederate soldiers had that much fat on them the union musket balls would have bounced off them (LOL). Photo is a good joke

And now we know what actually happened in post June 1940 France to all the cattle. This German paradrooper shot the critters with his Bergmann machine pistole and then promptly ate them.

Nothing can possibly stop the vaunted German Wehrmacht, except perhaps that French bakery over there.
