Any Comments on the Marlin 60

Looked at a Marlin 60 today at Turners? I liked it, sleek, good looking, just wandering how reliable and how cheap it's made with all the mfg's going to mim's parts.

Been over 11,000,000 of them sold. Solid, reliable and accurate rifle. Great for squirrels, rabbits and plinking out to 75yds. I have one made in 1985, looks and shoots as the day it was new. Not many after market parts available like for the 10/22 but some stocks and trigger parts/guards are available.

Just as good as a 10/22. I think it might be better because of the tubular mag. I get a lot of jams with aftermarket 10/22 mags

i got one and i'm using regular sites @ 25 yrd and hitting target everytime. it's an awesome rifle. my first .22. tube fed, can't go wrong. the only problem is i hear they are a pain in butt to take a part and clean. so i just stuff the barrel with a cleaner and call her done.

I have one its reliable & accurate my only complaint would be trigger is crappy compared to my 10/22s

Looking to add one to my collection one day. Pretty much same receiver as Marlin 795 but tube fed instead of mag fed.

I have one from 1977 17 round tube.... I love it.. paid 100.00 for it and 2k rounds of ammo and a bag.. Great gun for the money...

You ever been to angeles range? You know the 100yd steel targets? I can pretty much hit anything I want. I can put rounds into the visible approx 2"x1" bases that hold the targets stands up at the 100yd mark (granted Im still working on my kentucky windage). I have it zeroed at 100yds and my hold is 1 mildot low @ 35yds.

Im running DIP trigger, trigger guard, charging handle, and picatinny rail base. 3-9x40 (iirc) nikon mil-dot (non-rimfire scope), boyds stock and harris bipod. I primarily use Federal 550 Bulk.

Only issue Ive ever had is the action sticking when running that coated wolf match ammo - that coating gums everything up.

If youre able to make it to Angeles let me know and I'll let you try it out.

Wow, sounds like a good shooter especially after a few upgrades. Don't ever make it to Angeles though, I'm a little further south then that, thanks for the offer though.

theyre nice and cheap. you can get them for under $100 used. i prefer the old Glenfield 60 that holds up to 17-18 rounds

EXCELLENT rifle, I put Tech-sights on it... Tack Driver !!! Only problem is that the Tech -sights are a PIA (won't stay on rifle-keep falling OFF) !!!!!!!!!

yup like everyone has said they are awesome. i have one and i really like it, and i like the tube mag sometimes better than a standard mag. the only times its jammed is either with really crappy ammo or when i didnt clean it in a couple thousand rounds.

True story, friend of mine came over to the house said he had a rifle he wanted to see. Marlin 60 like mine. He brings it out we go up to the old pidgeon ridge shooting area up 39. Shoot all day, come home. I say lets clean it, my buddy says clean? I go okay, take the stock off and old powder spills out like a pepper shaker with the lid off. Get the action out and its black with power residue. Took hours to clean. This rifle didnt have one ftf the whole day before i cleaned it. It must have fired 1000s of rounds. Thats when i was sold on the old boring 60.

they are neat but you have to know the bolt stop only stops the bolt about half way so you have to drop the bolt then cycle the bolt to start shooting

their plastic is not as sturdy as the stuff ruger uses but at least on the marlin you are not going to break the scope mount off

Marlin 60 is a great gun. And it won't be an assault weapon like the 10/22.

love this .22lr rifle, it was my 3rd gun put over 1000 rounds! I've since bought a 10/22 & I picked up a Ruger SR22. so my marlin model 60 will go to my daughter when she turns 4.

4 is a good age right?

The 795 is just a 60 with a detachable box magazine.
Both the 60 and 795 are highly reliable. There are millions of more of these rifles out there then the Ruger 10/22.

this has been covered many times. it has a fixed mag, but it's greater than 10 rds. it'll be an assault rifle.

I have two, a relatively new one and a SS model made in the 90's. There is one major difference in the way that the action is built (side plates are thinner on the new one) but that difference doesn't seem to affect the performance. Both cycle with most ammo. The stainless rifle is way more accurate than the price would indicate.

Glenfield is the low end stock version. Pressed "checkering" if you can call it that...
Same gun otherwise, shoots good. I bought one when I turned 18, and had one given to me by someone who bought it to commit suicide, then had second thoughts. I was happy to take that off his hands.

i have had mine since the early 80s it is the stainless with the gray & black stock have put tons of rounds down the pipe . only have had to replace the feed throat other than that it is a great little gun

Extremely accurate out of the box gun and the price is unbeatable. Reliability is awesome, it gobbles up almost any ammo. This would be a great addition to any collection.

I agree with almost everything that's been said. Reliable, simple, easy to use, classic lines, and I personally prefer the tube over detachable magazines. Everyone should have a Marlin 60.

First gun I ever bought was a Glenfield 60. Bought new @ Wal-Mart in 1980...just turned 18. Still have it, always will.

I've had mine for about 30 years, it's accurate and mine holds 18 rounds.
