My Only regret so far is was not getting a Black Brake for it. The brake was supposed to be a bead blasted finish so I thought it would look more similar to the barrel. I guess its a minor detail though :P

That is a big on this build.

Are you as happy with the SR Gold as I told you you would be? Any issues with install or fitment?

I haven't shot it yet. Seems to be very hard to get 175gr SMKs right now.

I ended up loadeding up some 155gr Palmas over the weekend to break it in and start dialing in a load. Now I just need to get to the range.

I didn't have any installation issues, maybe I'm not catching something? The safety is harder to engage now but I think that is due to it's design. Trigger is very light weight, very clean brake, and very short reset, I hope I don't double it

Installation issues are not an inevitability. I just happened to be a lucky one. Good to hear you had no issues, all you're worrying was for naught.

Yes, the safety might have a slight hitch to engage due to the design having a secondary sear. Disengagement should be hitch free, correct?

And even though this is usually a criticism of the Gold triggers, it's light reset may actually help to mitigate unintended doubles. Compare it to a light trigger with a very stout reset. As your finger provides resistance as you ride the reset, that resistance easily turns into pulling force sufficient enough to pull the trigger again. With the Gold, the reset and the pull weight are well balanced.

Anyways, again this is a verrry sweet looking long range semi-auto setup. I can't wait to see what you do with it at distance.

Looks great! You definitely got the right scope/reticle for long distance shooting. Throw some 175s or 190s in there and it will be a BEAST

Drove down to the range today, loaded a single round and the gun broke on the first shot. The bolt catch cracked in 2.

Not a huge deal until you try to remove the set screw and remember you stripped the head off the set screw that is holding it in place...I guess my 2 fingers (thumb and pointer finger) were just too strong for it when I put it together.

Anyone have any suggestions or did I just end up with a $600 paperweight? I'll never buy another CMMG parts kit, that's for sure, this will be the second and third problem I had with it. And go figure, it was cheapest brand I used out of all the parts.

Other than that, it definitely has potential, but I was seeing some pressure signs on the loads I made (even slight cratering on the starting load, 44gr varget behind a 155gr Palma Match King. sorta odd). Others had flattened primers with cratering. No bulge in the brass though or anything like that. I guess I'll have to drop a couple grains and work my way back up. 44.5gr seemed to do a little better. Basically I adjusted the gas block down some so the rounds would just dump out the side but not catch on the magazine follower on the last shot (which it was doing thanks to the amazing bolt catch).

I have a spare Fulton Armory bolt catch. I tried to use it for a .223 setup thinking the difference wasn't big enough to matter. I could send it to you and if you like it, just pay me back for cost ($9.95) shipped. Unfortunately, I do not have the set screw for the receiver.

Sorry to hear it busted after one round.

I got the set screw out. Found some broken bolt extractors and turned it slowly with a wrench. I took pics too. Lucky for me the set screw really did strip out way too easy so it came out fairly easy with the extractor.

Thanks Ill definitely skip it then as its a feature I don't really need for this build.

Or is that the AR-15 version?

Looking into a simple SI stainless bolt catch and set screw now.

well SI does not make a stainless one anymore, so it looks like the only other upgrade is the Armalite one. $16 for the bolt catch and $15 to ship it!

A SI defense Stainless Set Screw and an armalite Bolt Catch is on the way to replace these cheesy CMMG parts.

Oh I was too, but having to send it in the be machined out anyways I figured I'd give it a shot first. it was actually really easy since I had the right size extractor, I just went slow.

it was the one thing I buggered up when installing the parts kit, all the roll pins went in perfect. Who would have thought there would be problems installing a simple set screw, the head stripped out incredibly easy. But then I found this page on midway so I felt a little better. At least it didn't break off like it did for other reviewers. Looks like it is an extremely common problem! Just looking at that set screw it looks like cheap cheap metal.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/283...08-steel-matte

Mine was CMMG but probably the same set screw... Hopefully the SI stainless ones are better @ $5 a pop they should be.

Edit: Well now I'm trying to cancel my order for the armalite Bolt Catch I just got the following email from CMMG:

"I have issued a sales order to our shipping department. They should be pulling a new bolt catch and bolt catch screw and shipping them out to you today. By the way our new bolt catches for our .308s are stouter so you hopefully won't have this one break."

Well my groups were not great that first trip out, and I was not able to adjust my gas block properly due to the broken bolt catch, but I was still adjusting and learning the scope, mainly the parallax adjustment.

I found a Load I may work around, but really I need to do another ladder.

first attempt 100yrds by Glamisduner, on Flickr 2 5 shot groups.

The lower group one was pretty good, so I think I'll try going up and down a little .1 .2 .3grs although I should probably re-try my other loads as well.

What distance are you doing your ladder at? Is 100 yards too close to do a proper ladder test?

this was 100 yards I was doing something similar to a ladder although I guess maybe it was not technically a ladder.

It might be too close..
