Best scope for under 200.00
I'm sure its been coverd a 100X. I'm looking for a good scope, some thing small like a red dot. Its for my sons new home built AR. We don't shoot a lot and never over a 100 yards. My eyes are getting worse by the day.
Thanks for taking your time.. |

I like the Bushnell Elite 3200.. had it mounted on my AR and with a hi-rise mount had no trouble with the fixed front sight. I've returned my AR to a red-dot and have my scope and rail for sale in the marketplace

meh
Alot of people I don't think actually take the time to read what's posted
"Something small like a red dot" would NOT include the Nikon M or P series scope. Vortex is a decent suggestion as would be the bushnell TRS-25. The Bushnell trophy is another good choice. Take a gander at the Primary Arms web site they have some decent stuff. When you get an idea of what you like get it there. I think they are having a sale on the Vortex with a 3 times magnifier for like $160 https://www.primaryarms.com/Red_Dot_Store_s/57.htm You can also do a search on Amazon .. just search for "red Dot" under the sports and outdoors section.

guilty as charged... I saw "scope" in the title and lept from there. For me Scope != red-dot. I also think very small scopes, other than ACOG, are a waste of money. My eyes are terrible, and shooting my AR from 100-300 yards I need all the help I can get. The 2-7 power scopes are a really good fit, IMHO.

Another +1 fpr teh Sparc or Strikefire. Sparc comes ready to mount on an AR right out of the box. Strikefire has the AR height option as well. Both can be easily used with a magnifier if you want to add one in the future.

Sometimes the best advice is offering the OP a new thought. I think you mean P223 3x32. Quote:
The Nikon P223 3x32 is a bright, clear and sharp optic, it provides some magnification without being 'too much'. You can still see a wide area around your target and not feel so zoomed in that all you see is an 'X'. Easy to see and focus on if you're farsighted. The Primary Arms 30mm Red Dot is similarly bright, clear and open and the dot is sharp. No magnification but also no need to focus on a front sight, just put the dot on the target and go. The Vortex Sparc is a nice red dot but it's small. The glass is clear, the dot is sharp and the controls are kind of reminiscent of my EOTech. My only issue is the size, it's one of the 'micro-dot' type optics. This is fine if weight is an issue, mine lives happily on my M&P 15-22 MOE because I wanted to keep it as light as possible.

For less than 100yrds check out a Weaver V3 1-3x20. It's a rugged dangerous game scope with true 1x at the low end for CQB that looks good on an AR. If you want a bit more magnification look at a Weaver V9 or V10. Weaver's Classic line are great bang for the buck and rugged enough to last a lifetime.
S&W M&P15-22 with a Weaver V3 in a 1" Burris QD P.E.P.R. mount.

As a side note and as an Eotech and a standard scope user I must admit red dots can be trying a bit for poor sighted users. For me the red dot on the Eotech wasn't crisp due to my Astigmatism. It did offer fast target acquisition though. For straight up QCB or fast targeting non MOA shooting red dots are fine at least imho.

Hey guys,
So I have the new Vortex Strikefire red dot (thanks to all for your help) My son and I are heading out to Boron in the morning to spend a few days on BLM land. I have a question about this scope and the open sights I'm using. Do I NEED to use the rear peep sight or is that just an option? |
