Default Freakin' cop harassing me about my Jeep...

So the other day, my daughter and I are riding down the road when an LAPD Sergeant pulls up next to me...

"Excuse me, sir." I hear as we are driving. I look over and he says "Your rear left brake light is out and I wanted to make sure you were aware."

I thanked him for letting me know, and promptly fixed it.

The nerve of him!!!!

Don't you just hate when that happens. Someone in a position of authority is polite and lets you know that the bulb is burned out, and it cost you $4. You'd think he could be out catching bank robbers or doing something better with his time.

Bastards. A local cop actually helped my wife change a bulb.
What a nerve.

Did you get his name? You really should report him for not giving you a fix it ticket and thereby stealing money from the city. Acts like this are why LA is in financial trouble.

Its not only cops, its the hose draggers as well. My wife blew a tire on the freeway with a truck load of softball girls on the way to a tournament. luckily they were able to pull to the side of the road, but they were in a blind curve where very bad things could have happened. Sadly, a truckload of firemen, stopped and harrassed my wife, daughter and the other softball girls by using their fire truck to block traffic, and they quickly and safely changed her tire. Those, CDF firefighters are going to hear it from me the next time I run in to them. they dont deserve their safety retirement. Just because they volunteer to save other peoples lives while putting their lives in harms way, doesnt mean they should be able to retire faster than anyone else. Hose draggers, SMH

I have had a lot of interaction with cops in my past as a "bad guy". I don't think I have ever had an unpleasent experience. Aside from being reprimanded for whatever I did wrong that is. In matter of fact I have had quite a few give me a break.

It pays to take care of the good ones, they deseve it. One time i was in SD i did what turned out to be an ilegal U turn by the zoo to go back for a parking space, I had a female oficer pull me over for the turn, when she saw an out of state license and I stated I was going to the zoo she told me to follow her and she took us to a great parking spot right by the entrance, then proceeded to tell us about the best parts of the zoo. From that point on whenever I am in SD and I see a female officer doing a stop I give a good visual to make sure things are ok, least I can do as payback for a few minutes of a class act.

At least he didn't pull you over and give you a double beat down. Sounds like a stand up cop not looking for a quota. Awesome!

Oh, if only that were true....

But the OP's point, I think, is that despite the Kevin Flanagans of the world, there are also a lot of other cops out there that you don't hear about that do good things. Kinda like the State Trooper that saw my cameralady stopped on the right-hand side of the road some years back. Pulls up behind her, walks up with the typical stern, "cop" manner, asks what the issue is, and finds out her left rear tire is flat, and she's pretty scared since this is a busy freeway in the middle of the day. She didn't have a cell phone back then. The Trooper, still with the stern "cop" tone, says, "Remain in your car, ma'am."

Next thing she knows, she feels the car shaking. She looks over and sees, in her side view mirror, this Trooper with his car jack out changing her tire for her!!

Did I mention this was on a busy freeway in the middle of the day, and that it was the left rear tire?

.

Typical.
Last time I got pulled over it was for rolling through a stop sign at LAX.
The officer asked why I was crying and I explained that I'd just put my wife on a plane for a three month stay in England and that I'd be missing her terribly.
Bastard had the nerve to wish me well and send me on my way.

I remember some years ago (I was still in my late teens then) when my timing belt stripped out on my first car while on the freeway. Due to other drivers refusing to slow and allow me over, I was forced to pull over on the left shoulder. My cell phone had broken and I still had not received my replacement. So there I was, stuck on the wrong side of the road, in the middle of nowhere, with no way to call for help, and no one was stopping to help.

Then, this CHP officer, pulled up and told me to get back in my car. He used his car to push me over to the right hand shoulder and then called my insurance company's roadside assistance number to send out a tow truck. Then he sat with me, chatting away until the tow truck arrived and had my car on the bed.

I know it wasn't in the same sarcastic vein as the rest, but to this day I still remember that officer; he's one of the reasons that I respect LEOs so much.

I surely hope this post is sarcasm, because if he wanted to "harass" you he would have given you a correctable citation which would have forced you to pay a department admin. fee to get the violation signed off. Might you notice I used the term "violation" because the California vehicle code clearly states a vehicle must have two working tail lights/ break lights at the same level.

I am sure your just being sarcastic though, so all is well...

Sounds like you feel like you're getting old. You're not. You are still increadibly young. You know, some years ago, when I was in my late teens, we had timing CHAINS and the only mobile phones were rotary phones in a Pontiac Firebird driven by this guy named Rockford.

Aren't vintage vehicles that were built with just one tail/brake light exempt from this requirement?
