Default hiking/camping/hunting with long gun after 1/1/13
Hello I'm planning a hiking/camping trip but i plan on leaving on foot from a populated area and getting to National forest will there be an issue with carrying a long gun? I might decide to hunt small game once at my designated spot( I am licensed to hunt). the thing is this trip will be right after Christmas and go in to January and i know that open carry of rifles from that point will be illegal? so how am i suppose to return if a ride is not available?
any feed back would help everyone i talk to just thinks the trip is dumb decision

Wherever it is otherwise legal to discharge a firearm you should be legal to carry it openly. If your legal to hunt/shoot you can have it openly.

Yes to above, and the open cary ban I believe is only for incorporated areas, there is also an exemption if you have a hunting licence but I am not up on all the details of that.

I'm new, so please forgive any errors. What do you need to have to legally carry a semi-auto shotgun? Just curious and ignorant.

yes i did mean 2013 lol my mistake how do i fix that? and i have to pass through incorporated areas to get to my destination that why i ask.

Since it's unclear.... it seems like you will be striking off on foot while still in a town or city with only your backpack and your gun? You are wondering about the legality of having your rifle strapped to your backpack as you hike through town- is this correct?

yes i did and parts of the hike would have had me in small commuinty areas but the hike was cancelled due to people backing out from the bad weather so not much of a concern anymore lol
