Default Prado IDPA this Saturday (10/19)

I've mentioned this in other threads but figure this should get its own thread. I am planning on attending this event along with pmrsino and 2nd Mass; anyone else who wants to try out IDPA is welcome to come and join us.

Registrations are here (https://clubs.practiscore.com/octobe...013/register); fee ($30) can be paid in cash at the event day-of.

You will definitely need: a good holster, mag holders for two spare mags, about 200-250rds of ammo, and a solid handgun. Definitely want a bit of familiarity in holster and shooting handguns; this is not recommended for a very first time shooter as safety is paramount, especially when shooting on-the-move.

Plan on the event taking about 6-7 hours from ~7:30 AM to ~2:30 PM.

See you there!

The registration for the match says the match starts at 7:45am Saturday morning. That is when we are ready to get you signed up and set for shooting. Match sign-ups end at 8:45 so don't be late. The match briefing will usually start about 8:45 or so and we will shoot shortly after that.
7:30 is a bit early it seems...be there by 8:15 I'd say to be safe!

Anyone who's going, see you there! I'll probably be wearing a black overshirt.

This was a horrifying experience. I cannot believe they told us to shoot the dogs. They were so cute. I couldn't do it. Shot the dude with the hands instead and got penalized for it.

They were Rottweilers, they should be clubbed at birth!

Is there anyone that provides introduction training to this sport for a resonable cost? I've been shooting all my life but it doesn't mean I'm good at it. I would like to get educated on the tech aspect before entering.

Honestly, just show up and everything will work out.

There are very weird rules that make absolutely no sense but everyone was nice about it.

Nathan has a course for total beginers and more advanced shooters. I have been through a few of these clinics and they have definately helped me and I think it would be great for a beginer. I think it's $80 and he does these at Piru. Plan on spending the day.

You haven't seen the fuzzy/furball breeds. But I agree. Congrats for making the top 5!

I scored decently at 18th place, at least I'm in the top third!

Well, it is a good idea that you know how to safely draw from a holster, and be familiar with the range commands before you go out on your own. Your best bet would be to have someone familiar squad with you and show you the ropes.

Just remember the four rules:

1.) Don't shoot me (If I'm squading with you)
2.) Don't shoot the RO
3.) Don't shoot yourself
4.) Have fun

What do you mean weird rules? Everyone knows that you're not going to ever drop a magazine with ammunition in it during a real gun fight, or reload while moving regardless if you're behind cover or not. And they'll always be your guardian angel there to yell "COVER" when you stick your body out a little too far.

My one and only gripe about the rules was that they said it was a procedural because I dropped an empty mag on the ground with the last round still chambered.

(this is the stupid tapatalk link that forces itself in) --> now Free

Yep, that's a rule too unless there was some kind of a malfunction that you had to clear an empty magazine unless you have an empty gun needs to be retained. It's really no different than a tactical reload if you think about it, which is why the rule is what it is.

It's a game, ...

I hear ya. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time and will do it again and again. It's just that one rule was really weird to me.

Who wants to carpool from West LA to next week's match? I think if a few of us go and split gas, it should be quite economical.
