Default Finally picked up my M&P9, surprie rest!

Finally I picked up my M&P 9mm. Man, I just love the feel of this gun. Tried out small and large palm swells and medium is the one for my hands. What really surprised me is its trigger rest, it has a tactile and audible feel! I shot a lot of M&P rentals in shooting ranges, and I do understand what most complain about its vague trigger reset. But when I racked the slide and checked its reset, I heard a 'click' and I felt it on my index finger. The rest is really pronounced, I probably won't get an Apex RAM for my M&P. Maybe S&W is listening? Trigger is gritty but like mostly I heard, I will go away after a few hundred rounds.

Yup, I got my M&P without mag safety thanks to Tracy Rifle and Pistol. They had to do a SSE (not on CA roster) but even with SSE, the price about the same or cheaper than the other local gun stores I have checked.

Cleaned the gun and going to the range tomorrow.

Gonna love it. It is now my favorite gun. Some grind to my trigger also but after some frog lube and shooting i dont notice it much at all unless i look for it. Get the upulala mag loader, those 10 round mags are a pain to load.

Grats on your new toy.

S&W is supposed to be rolling out the new Shield trigger (which has the nice, clear reset) into the rest of the M&P family. The M&P9c I got a few weeks ago didn't have it, much to my dismay (even with the Apex RAM, I have trouble finding the reset), but it sounds like you got one that does. Congrats!

I picked up the M&P 40 a few months ago after being mostly a Glock guy and haven't touched the G22 since. Not saying it's a permanent switch but man I love this gun. Recommend the Uplula loader as well. Enjoy!

I never had a problem on either my 9c or a full size, stock. The trigger did feel a bit gritty though but that didn't bother me.

Default Congrats brother

Yeah it is a very pretty weapon. I always thought I had large hands, but the medium size is what I use on my grip as well. It just feels right to me. I also feel a little bit of grittiness on the trigger, but only on the first pull. The reset on mine is and always has been great, and no grit on the reset pulls. Mine is an M&P40 and I love it. It is my duty weapon, and the one issued for Parole Agents for the State of CA.

Congratulations on a nice purchase.

Congrats! Tracy did the SSE for mine as well.

Thanks Feobia for the note about the Uplula, I ordered one this morning. My first trip to the range left me with very sore hands and only able to load 9 bullets at a time. I took apart my 10 round mags and confirmed that it is the exact same spring as the high cap mags. I am going to trim these 10 round magazine springs.

Yup. They were supposedly starting to put them in other M&P's starting in October. I have a friend that got a 9c in November that had the new trigger. It felt very nice. This is the first I've heard of them finding their way into the full size M&P 9 though. Good news!

I got one a few months ago with the new trigger. Manufacturing date is end of September. Love that pistol. Hopefully, we will soon hear an end to the droning on about Apex kits.

Hoping to own a M&P 9 or 9c in a few months. Would love to have the newer trigger.

Some (many?) of the M&Ps, my 9c included, have a "false" reset that feels like a trigger reset, but in fact occurs before the trigger is reset. As you're letting the trigger out, it clicks once, which feels like the reset, but if you pull the trigger again at that point, it's not yet reset and nothing happens. If you let it out a little further, there is a second, far softer, barely tactile click that is the actual reset. It's much weaker than the first click, even with the Apex RAM installed, which causes me to short-stroke the trigger a lot. For shooters who just let their finger off the trigger and then pull again without looking for the reset it's not much of a problem, but for someone like me who only lets the trigger out far enough for it to reset, it turns everything on its head.

Went to the range today and fired 150 rds of Blazer Brass 115gr. Performed great, no FTF or FTE. I do however cannot put in a full mag when the slide is closed. I have checked this forum as well as youtube that this common on 10 rd mags. I'll break it in first before 'modifying' the mags. Yep, the trigger reset is really different, it has a definite tactile feel to it with an audiable click to it.

@OP

Don't fret about the closed slide 10 round mag loading issue. It sounds like like a got a model from the same batch as mine. I also have a great trigger on mine and the mags took some force to load with the slide closed. After putting a few hundred rounds through mine, I am beginning to notice that the mags are becoming easier to load.

I would wait to do any kind of mag modification. Just remember, the majority of all reloads are going to happen slide open.

Thanks for the heads up. So where you eventually able to put in a full magazine with the slide closed?

OP, what's the 4 digit number between the two barcodes on your blue box? That tells the date it was made.

Great to hear about the new trigger. I sure hope I can upgrade my M&P45 as my only complaint is the hidden reset.

Based on the sticker on the side of the blue box, my m&p was manufactured mid-Sept. Another thing I observed while I was in the range was that I could quickly get to the break point without accidentally firing off the gun.

Here is the m&p just before cleaning

My best 7 yards

My best 10 yards

While I was at the range, I also got myself Speer Gold Dots hollow points for HD.

My mags will load with some force still. But they seem to be getting easier with use. Be patient and don't be like me and obsess over the small stuff. That's how I let go of my CZ 75.

You got a great updated firearm with a lifetime warranty.

S&W may have been quietly tweaking the M&P line. I have 3, produced at different parts of the last year and half. Each feel a little different with reset.

Anyway, if you like it now, just wait till you get it stippled and modded with Apex trigger (polymer version delayed till next month).

Here's my 45 stippled by a friend in AZ and ceracoted by HP Customs in Laguna Hills.
