Default 1871 Gatling Gun Magazine legality??

Hey guys I saw one of these at a flea market. Was not sure about buying it. My question is does this count as a high cap mag, or is it an antique? Let me know

The high capacity ammunition feeding device law does not have an exception for antique arms.

It would be pretty easy to say that you owned it before the ban. Of course I would never recommend such a thing.

Was it a replica or an authentic one? How much did they want for it? I'm just curious.

It was authentic, and I think they wanted $175

Sad thing is they where exempt from the old Fed ban on high caps, but I wouldn't try it with the CA ban.

There are two different types of Gatling gun mags. The ones for metalic cartridges (banned) and the open chute for the old black powder metal cylinders where are not.

Can you cite PC or is this just your misunderstanding? I believe if it is ANY +10 round ammunition feeding device, it falls under current CA laws. Those preloaded "metal cylinders" have a case, primer, powder and projectile and anyone with any experience with ammunition would consider them "ammunition" and even "metallic cartridges". BTW, I've seen "magazines" which are nothing more than a long brass box which are made to load the BP "metal cylinders" into the loading chute of gatling guns.

My understanding was that Gatling guns were considered single shot rifles due to the multiple barrels. I'll have to see if I can find where I got that info from.

Edit to add:

Found this thread from last year. The magazine / hopper issue still appears to be somewhat ambiguous. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=760149

The ATF rules them as a rapid fire manually operated firearm. Not a semi auto, closer to a pump or lever action even a repeating bolt action.
