There has been much caution suggested if you're referring to a drop in bolt conversion, as it is a "broken" unregistered AW when the bolt conversion is removed, even to just add a spot of oil to it before putting it back in. I would absolutely not be in possession of the .223/5.56 bolt at the same time because of People v. Nguyen effectively adding constructive possession to the AW ban.

If you're referring to a complete .22lr upper, you're good to go.

I am planning on buying a dedicated .22LR upper, and that AR - lower included, with a skeleton stock with no buffer or buffer tube or spring - will be stricly .22LR. I'm actually thinking of using a 80% lower with .22LR engraved on it, even.

Just want to cover all my bases. That's the only way I will not sport a BB on that lower. And it will always be assembled to the dedicated upper. I'm just the right amount of paranoid.

Rimfire rifles do not require a maglock.

Rimfire handguns that accept magazines outside of the pistol grip, always require a maglock.

Unless it's on the Olympic pistol exemption list.

Similar question, so it would be ok to throw one of those tacti-cool stocks on my wife's 10/22 without modifying the magazine release?

It is legal as long as the overall length is 26" or greater.
Overall length measured with the firearm in the shortest possible firing configuration.
