AR and Ak pistol mag locks

Ok, I understand about why Bullet buttons are on AR and AK rifles. It the assault weapon list and evil features. So why are AK and AR pistols required to have mag locks on them. Is there something Im missing??

Because the mag is outside the pistol grip.
