Anyone own one of these? I was fortunate enough to fondle a carbine, full length stock 30'06 and I must say that besides the $1400 price tag, I really fell in love with the rifle.

Sold one last year for $1100, 1938 mfg. G.I. bring back duffle cut in excellent condition in I think 8x56mm M.S.
Beautiful rifles for iron sight hunting out to about 300 meters but that's about it. |

If the scope mounts are included $1,400.00 isn't too bad.

Back as a kid I recall looking at a Stoegers book and lusting after these rifles, course back then way out of my price range.
Any pictures?

I have a 1980s Interarms Mark X mannlicher model with the butterknife bolt handle and set triggers. Beautiful rifle...I hate that it just sits in the back corner of my safe since I don't ever shoot it.

Not sure if the picture came up in my previous post.
Full length m77's are nice, but they are not the same rifle that Hemingway carried on the pilar!

I have not had a MS but I did have a military greek ms that had been sported and converted from 6.5 greek to 257 roberts.
I got it cheap as the rotary mag is not happy with other than it's original cartridge case. A litlle mill work on the magazine and it became a smooth, reliable and accurate shooter. |

The MS bolt-action is reputed to be one of the finest every manufactured. And the rotary magazine is a beautiful design. I own several and every one is a work of art. I like the ones manufactured between 1903 and 1950 with the original bolt design. Beginning in 1952 you have the swept-back bolt handle. The most interesting one I own was converted to 257 Roberts by Johnson Automatics (an American company that produced semiautomatic rifles and machine guns during WWII).

Chad-
Check your PM Post those proof marks and we can determine the cartridge for that rifle.

Very cool.
9x56 mannlicher That's a 250gr bullet at about 2150fpsmv Typical velocity for big game cartridges of the time. The full jacket 'solids' penetrate like mad at that speed. The softs work like boat anchors on big ungulates and thin skinned dangerous game like the cats your grandfather went after in the good old days.
